(link) https://www.rollingstone.com/politics/politics-news/donald-trump-joe-biden-erie-pennsylvania-rally-1234797413/
Trump played the victim his apparent favorite stance of late, brushing off the indictments and charges against him. He brought up President Joe Biden (crooked Joe Biden, a dumb son of a bitch, and the most corrupt president in American history were a few of the ways Trump referred to the leader of the free world) and lamented that he was being persecuted while the Biden crime family was not. Claiming that the U.S. no longer has a free and fair press and that fake news is all you get, he alleged, They refuse to discuss the Biden crime family, but enjoy covering false indictments of Donald Trump, who has done nothing wrong.
As Trump was repeating unverified claims that disease-ridden people from mental institutions, from insane asylums are pouring into the U.S. citing a psychiatrist from an unnamed South American country who supposedly claimed theyve emptied out their mentally ill people into the United States he blamed Biden. We have somebody thats not at the top of his game, never was at the top of a game. Never was, Trump said. We have a guy whos a dumb son of a bitch to allow this to happen Every dollar spent attacking me by Republicans is $1 given straight to the Biden campaign if he makes it.
Trump also questioned the timing of the unjustified charges against him. They waited two and a half, almost three years so that they could bring them right in the middle of my presidential election, because its election interference, he claimed, calling special counsel Jack Smith a deranged lunatic and ripped on his looks: Its like Central Casting, he quipped. Beyond attacking people, he also ripped on cities, including Atlanta, Philadelphia, and Chicago. Theyre all bad, run by Democrats all bad every one of them is horrible, he said, citing crime and complaining about how Atlantas DA focused on the investigation into Trumps alleged involvement in 2020 election interference versus crime rates.

My dear DU friends, please note that Chump LOST Pennsylvania in 2020 and he'll lose by a much larger margin in 2024. Why did he choose Erie for this pathetic rally? Because he knew he'd flop in Philly, Pittsburgh, Harrisburg, and Scranton. I'm guessing this Erie rally pulled in as many from northeastern Ohio (Cleveland) as it did from Pennsylvania.

(95 posts)is that it isn't even Trump the person to whom they are responding. He is just the lightning rod for their hatred (for now).
Whatever is wrong with them has always been there, and once Trump is gone, they'll just find another demagogue through which to channel their uh, feelings.
The Right has a pretty deep bench of hateful, stupid grifters who would love to assume Trump's mantle as soon as the Orange God Kind is out of the way.
Oh, and just a note to the MSM - I don't really need to be treated to a diner in rural Whereversville getting their 'insights and opinions' for the next year and a half.

(59,519 posts)Decades ago, I remember someone saying that the US almost always votes for the candidate who seems the most optimistic and happiest. This extreme anger at his personal situation but extending to all the cities. Most of the people he needs probably at least occasionally visit a city mentioned. Though not perfect they visit because there also is a lot of good.
wnylib
(21,871 posts)no attempt to reach beyond his base. He had no intention of trying to gain votes. He believed that he had the election sewed up because of his actions like removing mailboxes from street corners and dismantling Post Office mail sorters to prevent Dems from sending mail in ballots. He held rallies despite those gatherings being super spreaders. Biden did not have huge rallies. Obama held outdoor rallies for Biden with people in their cars.
Plus, Trump counted on Russian social media influencing help again and on election rigging in red communities and swing states. Part of his rage at not winning was that he thought that the election was sufficiently rigged in his favor.
Before election day, when his advisors told him that he was polling behind Biden, he did not change his tactics. Instead, as Roger Stone told people in Trump's circle (on tape), the plan was to claim a win and accuse Biden of election fraud.
So it concerns me that Trump is following the same pattern this time. To me, that means one of two things, or both. 1) Trump has people in swing states who will rig the election in his favor, or his 2020 team's breach of voting records includes a plan this time to hack into computers to rig the vote. OR, 2) Trump has another, more focused plan for a violent takeover than the J6 fiasco. That's not as far fetched as it seems. Both Malcolm Nance and Ruth Ben Ghiat say that we are at risk of another, better planned coup attempt via domestic terrorism and assassinations. The Capitol police are setting up field offices in several states to protect members of Congress from death threats.
Trump's indifference to people outside of his base is a warning sign.

(33,018 posts)The few documents he had in storage were pertaining to the death of his son. I'm sure Joe had no intentions of leaking or selling any of them to anyone. It was a completely honest oversight.
Joe Biden (as we all know) is a man of honor. He respects the work of the FBI and the Dept. of Justice.
Meanwhile Chump (as we all know) can't even spell honor, let alone understand what the word means.

(50,619 posts)This leads to the next question: when they figured out what they really were and why he had them, did the originating agencies declassify them and give them back? Most of that kind of material is something an intelligence consumer would have destroyed a week after they got it - youd use it to put together a report, then deposit it in a burn bag. If you kept all the current intel you got over three months, youd never be able to get into the building from all the paper you had. I worked at a relatively small producer of classified information and we generated so much of it we were completely funding our mess hall by selling our shredded waste to a company that makes blow-in insulation. (The Army didnt mind because us doing that meant they saved money.) But to Joe Biden those reports are closure.

Isn't there a famous lighthouse there? I remember going to a lighthouse that was a historic landmark on that trip.
Coming from Chicago it could have been on the way there or back.
wnylib
(21,871 posts)just over the border from NY. People pass through there on the way to the Canadian side of Niagara Falls. There is a lighthouse at Fort Erie.
There are lighthouses at various places along Lake Erie.
There are 3 of them at Erie. If you went by car from Chicago to Niagara Falls along the coast of Lake Erie, you would probably have passed through Cleveland, Erie, and Buffalo on the way to Niagara Falls. They're all on Lake Erie.
I don't think any of the Erie lighthouses are famous, but one, at least, is called "historic." You might have seen the lighthouses, or one of them, if you stopped at Erie and specifically looked for them, but they are not tourist attractions. However, the Presque Isle beaches at Erie do attract tourists. Sometimes while at the beaches, tourists see one of the lighthouses, get curious, and check it out. So you might have visited a lighthouse at Erie, PA. Or the one at Fort Erie, Ontario.
