Carlee Russell - latest: Alabama police throw cold water on dramatic kidnapping tale during press conference
Carlee Russells internet searches suggest she staged her own kidnapping, Alabama police say
Carlee Russell made a series of suspicious internet searches in the days before she claimed to have been abducted, Alabama authorities revealed at a press conference on Wednesday.
A forensic analysis of Ms Russells cell phone, work and home computers found she looked up information about the movie Taken, Amber Alerts, and how to take money from a register without being caught, Hoover Police Department Nicholas Derzis told reporters.
The searches shed light on the 25-year-olds mindset leading up to when she claimed to have been kidnapped after seeing a toddler walking along the side of Interstate 459 on 13 July, Mr Derzis said.
Police had been unable to verify Ms Russells claims, and she has since refused to be interviewed, he added.

After she returned home, police conducting an initial interview with Russell. She told detectives she saw a baby walking down the road when a man came out of the trees saying he was checking on baby. Russell claimed the man then picked her up. She said she remembers screaming before being put into an 18-wheeler.
Russell did not remember much about the man but claimed he had orange hair with a big bald spot. Police said Russell told them she then escaped the 18-wheeler, but was caught again and put into a car. The next day, she was fed crackers by a woman and put into another car which she escaped again in the west Hoover area.
Police said Russell had a small injury to her lip and her head was hurting. Detectives also found $107 cash in her right sock.
The US Secret Service was asked to assist in the investigation and they analyzed internet search results from the areas Russell was between July 11 and July 13 before her reported disappearance. Police said those searches included the following terms:
Do you have to pay for an amber alert
How to take money from a register without being caught
Birmingham bus station
One way bus ticket from Birmingham to Nashville
The movie "Taken"
Maximum age of an amber alert

(1,159 posts)What makes her case like that of Smollett or, as someone else noted, Tawana Brawley? Did she suggest or allege that she was the victim of a race crime, or that her supposed attackers were of another race?
Frankly, false accusers like Susan Smith or Carolyn Bryant come to mind when false allegations involving race are concerned, and the laundry list of victims like Emmitt Till, the Groveland Four, the Scottsboro Boys, and so many, many others leave me fascinated when Smollett is held up as the poster child for false allegations.
Seriously, how does this case trigger references to Smollett or Brawley vs the MANY cases like that of Amy Cooper?
