It's wonderful and worth watching if you've never seen it.
He barely checks his notes the whole time until he give his powerful summation at the end which he'd obviously prepared, talking about the need for global unity on this pressing matter.
At a minimum probably will make you long for the days when Congressional Hearings were this august. No shit-flinging monkey repuQ interrupts the man the entire 16+ minutes.
Enjoy!

(19,333 posts)We've had an inkling that our use of fossil fuels was harming the environment and leading to global warming since the 1950s. By 1985 a ton of research had been done and it was becoming settled science as Carl Sagan aptly summarizes here.
You'll hear the deniers say things like, scientists thought we were entering another ice age until the 1990s. While I'm sure there were some out there that did, the consensus was that global warming was occurring and it was manmade.
We're not just learning about this, we've known for several decades and have had ample opportunity to do something about it. And just as sure as the deniers kept denying it, I was always sure that after there could be no deinal, the deniers would say, "Welp, too late to do anything about it now!" And that's where we are, the cynics on the right think it's too late. There's still a ton we can do to ease global warming, Biden had s us back on track to carbon neutrality to match China's progress. There are potential remedies being invented all the time, we can mitigate this disaster and still haved a chance to reverse it.

(2,409 posts)Sagan and others put it out there in the 1980's... James Burke's series "After the Warming" was an example of popularized science. None of the efforts of the climate prophets made any difference.
Our anti-science dogmatism will kill us.
