(2,133 posts)I live 10 miles from where MTG went to high school. Almost all of GA including Cobb County is an EMC. I call on EMC's everyday. These were started in the '30's to provide rural America electrification. Georgia Power was not going to build out its infrastructure to have rural counties get electricity. Why not ask her about that Democratic program.

(17,418 posts)After 20 years, you get dividends from each year you were a member. Even if you aren't in the coop the whole 20 years, you'll get an annual dividend for each year you were a member. The size of the dividend was related to the amount of electricity you used, and how much your bills were. The drawback is that it doesn't encourage members to conserve.
My kids are members of a coop in the county we live in now.

(54,501 posts)are the federal programs that accomplished the most beneficial aspects of life for the average American.
The programs helped people, not just corporations and the rich.
She's just a mic hog who will spew anything for attention. In this instance she doesn't even know she's helping Biden.

(24,256 posts)Why yes Majorie, we, the Democrats have accomplished a lot since FDR and the American people have benefitted greatly!
We will not go back to trickledown economics that made the made the rich richer, or lower taxes on the top 10% people of wealth like Trump did and blow up the National Debt to (1)$7.8 trillion and score the 3rd largest deficit in American history.

(16,958 posts)Those programs (plus a now defunct scholarship program in my state) are the reason I, a broke ass first generation college student from a broke ass family are the reason I was able to get a college education and graduate with only about 1K of debt. It's also the reason a lot of other kids like me were able to go to college.
The Great Society was very popular, as that electoral map shows. LBJ was a very popular president until his misguided policies on the Vietnam War led to a huge backlash. He could have continued to be a popular president if not for that. Instead, he became so UNpopular that he decided not to even run for reelection. VP Humphrey couldn't overcome the taint of being associated with the Johnson administration, and we ended up with Nixon.
I was as upset with the escalation of the Vietnam War under LBJ as most people my age were at the time, but I will always be grateful for the difference his Great Society policies made in my life and the lives of many others. MTG has no idea wtf she's talking about, so she needs to back the fuck off, ALL THE WAY OFF.

(14,640 posts)Industrial Complex became a massive, ever-growing parasite on the US budget.
The Great Society was excellent public policy. Problem was, Wall Street and the MIC didn't like it because it didn't maximize PROFITS for shareholders.
Silly LBJ, they thought - that man wants to wage war on poverty. We can't have that! We want a nice little costly war in Vietnam! Why, we NEED (the shareholders NEED) to sell, sell, sell all kinds of death toys because hey, PROFITS!
We lost that war, but Wall Street came out the BIG winner! Lots of PROFITS, and when we had 911, that was when Bushy REALLY pulled out the stopper and inflated the budget until it is NOW over 50% of our entire budget. For 'defense.'
And we're so fucking corrupt even the Democrats might not be able to overcome that, especially with the corporate-controlled Supreme Court.
This is about policy. We can either use the 84% of tax revenue generated by individual taxpayers like you and me for programs that materially benefit families on Main Street, OR we can continue systematically funneling those public monies to billionaire parasites and corporations. That bronze bull-idol on Wall Street be HUNGRY for more, more, more, more PROFITS.
Greed is driving this show, folks. Sheer naked, ugly Wall Street greed.

She really isn't all that smart, is she? Well, we knew that, but their messaging to gin up fear in their crazy base is finally breaking down.
Republicans have not been able to defend their positions morally since maybe Ike was in the White House, and they cannot defend them economically now.
