(53,922 posts)I'll mull it over, could save a few bucks a month. I live in a part of the country without hurricane threats, tornadoes, floods or wildfires that could take out cell coverage (southern NV).
I just might have to do that.

(6,979 posts)I ditched my landline also, with an assist from my niece and her husband.
I've been around or had landline all my adult life (I'm 62). But, my niece and her husband called a few months ago and asked me if it's okay with you me and hubs you to join us on Verizon--We'll add you. I wasn't paying that much for landline, but still to have my niece and her hubs think of me, and like you I transferred my landline number to my 5G cell phone which they also bought new for me. They also added me to their Amazon Prime membership. I helped to raise my 2 nieces and 2 nephews and you never know if they'll give you the time of day or even drop a phone call on you when they age. Hey, they have their lives to live and I get it. But they realize that I'm the last member of the original family (As my parents and much older siblings are all now deceased). I have friends who helped raise their nephews/nieces & they tell me that they pay them dust. I'm blessed that my 2 nieces and 2 nephews include me into their lives, and that their spouses/children accept me also. Them helping their "old" auntie out whenever possible, I mean wow

(4,112 posts)Had kept it only because our security system used it for emergency dialing. We upgraded our system to use a built-in satellite phone so it was no longer needed. The only incoming calls we got for years were spam. No more unwanted dinner time calls and saved $60/month. Yay!

(51,740 posts)It costs us about $40. It's worth it for us. The cells are just for the individuals in our household. We've had the landline number since 1991, and it's on so many accounts and agencies that we don't want to get rid of it. But we are an anachronism. My son will never have a landline when he gets his own place.

(123 posts)But when I dropped cable it got too expensive, so I transferred that number to my cellphone.
Over the years I had called it a couple of times and it was immediate response.
Plus they could trace the call much faster, etc.
These days I'm not sure if I should call 911 or direct to the local police department for quicker response in an emergency.
I have always meant to ask the police department which would be the better option but still haven't done that.
Anybody here knows better and can inform me?

(32,737 posts)If anyone has safety concerns: I called 911 twice during my cell only lifestyle--it wasn't an issue at all. Cops arrived pretty quickly and that was at least 11 years ago. I'm pretty sure emergency technology has improved since then.

(16,543 posts)My husband is the one who can't bring himself to part with it. I'm afraid the only way I may ever get rid of it (and the cable TV service) is by prying them both out of his cold, dead hands some day!
For such a scientifically oriented guy, he's a real luddite about certain things.
