... tears streaming down his face, and said, 'Sir, I can't believe what they're trying to do to the country's favourite and most innocent president'."
And Jack Smith replied, "Stop groveling and whining, Donald."

(9,278 posts)Favorite or Favourite? As you chose the English spelling, I tripped while reading and imagining President Thinskin Egomeister spelling it that way.

(27,825 posts)I'm from Brooklyn, NY, and moved to Canada in '74 when my then-husband (also from Brooklyn) was offered a very lucrative job in Toronto.
We separated three years later, but I decided to stay here when I was offered a very lucrative job of my own as a writer for a music-biz magazine - which meant having to adapt to Canadian spellings.
In 1985, I became a court reporter, a career that spanned almost forty years - and the Canadian spelling of words was mandatory. Had I produced court transcripts with words like 'color' and 'neighbor' (instead of 'colour' and 'neighbour'), I would have been cited for not being able to spell properly.
After all these years, Canadian spellings are second nature. I understand that it can be off-putting at times in my posts here - but the habit is too ingrained to change.

(9,278 posts)Our imaginations are pretty wonderful places. After living in London for three years in the 70's, I'm still accutly sensitive to English phrases and the delightful differences.
I also spent a fair amount of time all across Canada in the 80's. I was able to experience their national healthcare in Vancouver. I envy you your day to day life up there. Wonderful country.
