Grandma and grandpa get off you lazy dead asses and work if you want to eat - the GOP

"Big, thorny issues remain,” one of the top negotiators, Rep. Patrick McHenry, R-N.C., told reporters in the evening.

-snip-

Both sides have suggested one of the main holdups is a GOP effort to expand existing work requirements for recipients of food stamps and other federal aid programs, a longtime Republican goal that Democrats have strenuously opposed. The White House said the Republican proposals were “cruel and senseless.”

-snip-

Current law applies those standards to recipients under the age of 50. The GOP plan would raise the age to include adults 55 and under. It would lower the number of exemptions that states can grant to some recipients subject to those requirements.

Biden has said the work requirements for Medicaid would be a nonstarter. He initially seemed potentially open to negotiating minor changes on food stamps, now known as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP, but his position has appeared to harden.

What kind of work are we talking about? If it's public work that's one thing. I do not believe companies that do not pay a livable wage should be subsidized by the taxpayers.

Why can't a person work to 55 or 60, barring health reasons?

form of 'charity'.

Some actually became a form of house slave, without being called a slave as they had no value to keep in good health. Another form of 'charity'.

... Grandma and Grandpa were told to "RETIRE ALREADY, you old farts." They said we were stealing jobs from the young ones who are smarter, better workers and don't get paid as much.

So ... most of us retired. The rest are going to retire any day now. That's it, we're done.

it won’t impact many, if any. Obviously, “fair” is key. I’d prefer not to have the requirements, though.

I’d have to see the “requirements” here, but some states allow one to perform community service if they aren’t already excluded for physical and mental issues, carrying for kids, carrying for sick family members, going to school, in training, lack of suitable jobs, etc.

Am I entitled to draw my money back out? Try to take it and see how I feel about it. That would be my bridge too far.
