What do you suspect will happen to it when Trump is either dead and gone or in federal prison?
I'm predicting demolished. What say you?

(855 posts)Put it in a museum, I guess. The rest, demolish like other notorious compounds probably. Just too much bad history to let it stand as a gathering place in the future.

(12,040 posts)The kids would probably demolish it. Kids are funny though, mine don't even want my home or my stuff. My life will be inside a dumpster. I guess that is a good thing. Kids doing better and all.

(104,874 posts)since 1972 by an Act of Congress--way before Trump who bought it in 1985. It had been originally willed to the US Government by Post as a diplomatic retreat but was sold to Trump due to high maintenance and security concerns.
My guess is that it might revert back in some manner to a less private property or even under the auspices of the National Park Service and some monied non-profit, but no, I don't see it being destroyed. After all, there were sixty years of history in the place before Trump and while General Foods may not have the same cache' as then, there are probably plenty of Post heirs around to try to remind others of the prior history. Or some wealthy a'hole may just take it over and keep it as a club, who knows? I hear the Saudis have $$$ ( )
That, of course, assumes that the Trump heirs get more or less wiped out financially in the near future.

Trump ownership
Donald Trump learned about the estate after unsuccessfully trying to purchase and combine two apartments in Palm Beach for his family. He offered the Post family $15 million for it, but they rejected it. Trump purchased the land between Mar-a-Lago and the ocean from Jack C. Massey, the former owner of KFC, for $2 million,[19] stating he intended to build a home that would block Mar-a-Lago's beach view. The threat caused interest in the property to decline, and Trump ended up getting the property for $7 million in 1985.[20][17] Different sources have put the combined total cost of the purchase at around $10 million.[7][21][22][23] The minimum acceptable bid had been $20 million, and the interior furnishings were appraised at $8 million.[24]

(119,157 posts)Depending on the depth of the legal shit TFG winds up in, it might be subject to forfeiture and end up owned by the National Park Service. Following a thorough exorcism involving representatives of all faith and spiritual communities and a lot of sage, maybe it will become some kind of weird museum. Or else maybe some rich person will buy it.
