Nepo baby, loses his fancy new football job over social media history..."liking" racist tweets

Michigan Athletics released a statement Saturday in which it announced that assistant director of football recruiting Glenn “Shemy” Schembechler resigned from his role just days after his hire was announced by the program.

“Effective this afternoon, Shemy Schembechler has resigned his position with Michigan Football. We are aware of some comments and likes on social media that have caused concern and pain for individuals in our community. Michigan Athletics is fully committed to a place where our coaches, staff and student-athletes feel welcome and where we fully support the University’s and Athletic Department’s commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion,” said the statement, which was signed by Michigan athletic director Warde Manuel and football coach Jim Harbaugh.

Schembechler’s resignation comes after his Twitter account was seen “liking” racist tweets. The account had reportedly been removing previous “likes” but has since been deactivated.

Shemy is the son of legendary former Wolverines coach Bo Schembechler, who coached from 1969 to ‘89 and won 13 Big Ten championships. Shemy had previously worked for the program as a graduate assistant back in 1993. He most recently worked as a scout for the NFL’s Raiders, and had announced his return to the program on Wednesday.

One “like” from Schembechler’s account that drew the most attention was of a tweet that spun Jim Crow laws in a positive light.

A few other “likes” were regarded as offensive.

Tony Dungee does a lecture at the rookie NFL symposium about social media. Trying to tell the rookies, don't post stuff that you'll later regret. Don't hit send.

Also, a big fan of the saying "nothing good for your career happens outside your house after midnight.'

Apparently, they should have him talk to scouts as well and add "Don't attach yourself to neonazi and white supremacists like Ben Shapiro... especially if you want to work in football, unless you are as rich as Jerry Jones and own the damn team."

I know he had stood up for minority hiring in the NFL and trying to get rookies to invest their money and act like there is a life after football.

Bummer if he's a homophobic and transphobic individual. Because he does a lot of other good work.

To hire blatant racists.

Of course. At the school up north, nepo-baby only kept his job for a short time unlike the Ferenz kid who survived the racism by throwing the strength coach under the bus.

It’s the near certainty he has screwed his future sports career opportunities anywhere forever.

This kind of racist behavior should follow him like a Dishonorable Discharge would follow a traitor, and crush job opportunities where he would deal directly with people. Scum.

Where racists are now not afraid to hide it. The things Shemy liked went beyond Rightwing politcal, they wre blatantly racist and transphobic.

And I truly believe the weirdo head coach was hiring him to thumb his noses at the 1000+ sexual assault survivors who were abused by Bo Schembechler's team doctor, Dr. Robert Anderson. Bo knew of the abuse and covered it up, Harbaugh has been public that he doesn't believe the survivors who've said so, he wanted to show them up.
