New York mom hosts $3,000 'bed party' for daughter headed to University of Alabama

Staten Island Advance

A New York State mother spent $3,000 recently to announce her daughter was going to the University of Alabama.

The story was recounted in The Wall Street Journal, which documented “bed parties,” an event situated largely among would-be college students in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut.

The practice began during COVID-19, when students would announce their college admission with a photograph of a bed, piled in the swag of their favorite school. And like gender reveals and baby showers, the practice has become more elaborate over time.

The parties can be either a surprise, or directed by the student, complete with registries.

Social media is so damn weird. What kind of narcissist do you have to be to do this kind of stuff for likes? Madness.

Your life is so important, we must follow you whoever we are.
Be it Instagram or Facebook, your business shines by far.
But when i want to know more about you, the 'members only' is a bar.

I am a leader so far out there, I reject all followers.
No one can easily find me as I lead the way for all others.

She would most likely be getting a hefty scholarship to perhaps a free ride. Alabama actively recruits at our local HS in the Midwest. My friends daughter had a free ride for both her undergrad and master's degrees at Alabama.

Alabama is a good school, but brag worthy?
