Biden and Hill leaders postpone debt meeting as deal talks continue

President Joe Biden and top congressional leaders have delayed their planned Friday meeting to discuss the debt ceiling, according to a White House spokesperson.

The group has instead agreed to meet next week. The postponement comes as the White House and GOP leaders have just weeks before a June 1 deadline to strike a deal that raises the nation’s borrowing limit. But several people familiar with the discussions characterized it as a positive development, and a sign that talks between White House and Hill staffers are gaining momentum.

Congressional and White House staff plan to meet again on Friday, when both the House and Senate are scheduled to be out of session, according to another person close to the talks who spoke on condition of anonymity.

"There have been very good discussions over the last few days at the staff level. And I think the decision was collectively made, led by the White House, to allow those staff conversations to continue," House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries said in a brief interview.

You can find out what the other person is thinking and feeling.

But, Joe (or whoever is at the meeting) isn't going to cave. If compromise is achieved, I'll bet it won't include the essential public benefits, nor any crippling concessions which will make it hard for Joe to accomplish his job. He can always do the 14th thing. Give a little, get a little...but I hope that the Repubs realize that Trump is being criminally indicted and may be in a jail cell. They don't have anything to fear about being sensible.

I personally am not afraid of compromise. If the Repubs think they are going to get all those massive cuts they want, however, well, they shouldn't listen to Trump.
