Put food out shortly before your Carrier comes if you can. Puke types have been known to steal it. This is the first year I have put mine out in a paper bag, better double bag it eh? No more plastic bags in my State. All food stays local.

(11,318 posts)if need be. The Letter Carriers Union is given time for this by the Postal Service. Late returns are O K with management. Cooperation between the Union and Management is rare, but for this one cause.
I always forget until I see canned goods sitting on our community box.

(22,522 posts)Don't leave food unless your carrier has left a notification. If they're not participating, donate cash to your local food bank.

(116,004 posts)So I've had to take the food to a food shelf myself - my carriers either can't or won't deal with it. Maybe they don't have the staff.

(102,562 posts)season (well, the rare week-long rainy period for Colorado, post-snow season). I guess I need to find more plastic bags (outlawed for groceries here) since cardboard boxes will not survive. I won't overload the carrier though. This is extra work for them but hopefully, they are in the "spirit."

The carriers, and their backs, will appreciate it. Pick up a few bags of canned goods every block and try to carry it. It gets really heavy, fast.
if you have a lot of food, take it directly to the Post Office and drop it off. There are usually a couple of folks there coordinating things.
