Some light criticism of CNN's disaster by their media reporter. And no, doing "fact-checking" afterward on a show no one watched does not mitigate or justify the decision to give free air time to an evil criminal. Besides, as Tapper admitted, there wasn't enough time to fact check all the lies. If so, then why have him on in front of an admiring audience? Because of ratings for a failing network shift instigated by a repug owner and, more importantly, for that owner, changing the narrative to fit the desires of the oligarchs.
We'll see if this take gets Darcy fired, like they got rid of Brian Stelter.

Its hard to see how America was served by the spectacle of lies that aired on CNN Wednesday evening.
Trumps team was, naturally, delighted with the result, according to reports. Advisers to Trump are thrilled at how this is going so far for him, The NYTs Jonathan Swan reported. They cant believe he is getting an hour on CNN with an audience that cheers his every line and laughs at his every joke.
Neither could anyone else.

(2,516 posts)Nothing at CNN will change because of this. If anything, it will emolden their RW owners. They've shown who they want to appeal to. Only dire ratings with literally no one watching could possibly change the trajectory.

(105,775 posts)SO, those here who maintain that CNN is united in pride over that mess and that there is no internal uproar are very wrong. Much of those within CNN are rightfully appalled--as should be all of us.

(7,399 posts)Since he isn't drawing large crowds anymore he just got free access to millions of people. No need to provide security, transportation. No need to worry about the weather. I predict other " news" outlets will follow suite.

(7,941 posts)That's ridiculous. Most of the posts are about CNN and it's indefensible decision to put on this shitshow. It's a repeat of what happened in 2016 and CNN is showing it will do the same thing this time around. DU is responding accordingly. CNN is the entity giving him attention and smart and honest folks are rightly calling it out.

(15,059 posts)is hoping he will get tried and convicted on at least one of the 11 pending investigations. He should definitely go down for at least a couple of them.
Me, I'm hoping for a RICO conviction.
While DU is a great community, we are pretty much of one mind on the issues. Not sure anybody on here (but the few trolls) would ever vote R.
See the yellow dog icon by my name? It means I would vote for a yellow dog over any Republican. Period. I vote a straight D ticket every time. It's about policy, and as an economist, I absolutely know that Republican policies are GREAT for Wall Street greed lizards and billionaire parasites, but terrible for everyday Americans.

(69,352 posts)...and share the disgusting, CNN does NOT have a republican owner.
They are part of a $30 billion media conglomerate, publicly traded, with 2.4 billion shares outstanding.
The top 3 stockholders are asset management companies and the highest, Vanguard, holds under 9% of shares.
I know we've heard about John Malone, but he only holds 24 million shares, or 1%.
His influence is oversized, for sure, but he neither owns nor controls the company.
This is all on Licht.
