The news in Germany is now talking about "the Trump Syndrome" re: the upcoming Turkish election
It is well-known that president-dictator Erdoğan (ğ is pronounced like an English "w" for us non-Turkish speakers) is not interested in losing this election and being removed from power by popular will. He is making noises that indicate that he has little patience for the popular will, and will declare any election that does not show him winning to be illegitimate.
This sounds familiar, and not only to the people of Turkey. The German media have jumped on it and called it "The Trump Syndrome." Wow, what an honor to be known beyond our borders for despising the very thing for which the founding fathers risked (and, in many cases, lost) their existences.
What a way to set an example for the rest of the world's countries, there, Republicans! Maybe not all of them think it's worth emulating, but at least now we know for sure that everyone was--and is--paying attention.
