(15,394 posts)None of my religious conservative friends want to discuss the possibility that it's God judging people there for something like not taking care of the poor, etc. Normally they're onboard for natural-disaster blame-casting.

(6,017 posts)There's no one Christianity; there have been and are tens, maybe hundreds of thousands of religions called Christianity over the last 2000 years. All of them hold beliefs that are incompatible with at least some of the others. Some are in a practical sense mutually incompatible with each other. And each sect believes that theirs is the only "real" truth, and that they are the only True Christians.
This is why Republicans are able to use religion as a bludgeon. They've twisted the 1st Amendment as thoroughly as they have the 2nd Amendment to grant themselves ultimate power and reserve power (or as everyone else sees it, "equality" and "Liberty" ) for no one else. This allows them to claim all those assertions in the OP meme with a perfectly straight face and perhaps even mean it - because that is their gateway to power. Heck, there are even very popular forms of Christianity today that wholeheartedly teach that forcing power over others is imperative to getting into into their "Heaven" or perfect eternity.

(89 posts)God's judgment may well be, "I told you that what you do unto others, you do unto ME... and I am not pleased with your behavior. Your punishment for disregarding my will is for you to be cast into the Pit".
At least that's how I interpret Scripture.
