In Honor of Dark Brandon's Magnificent Speech, a Video from 1944.

Last night the President did a magnificent job of mixing humor and seriousness. It recalled some history to me.

This past December, to get it off my "bucket list," my wife and visited the FDR National Historic Site with the FDR museum and library on the grounds.

The driving force for me was to catch the exhibit on FDR's last campaign, the 1944 campaign, where it was thought he might actually lose the election because he was too frail and weak to handle the job, and too sick to survive the term. (He was in fact to sick to finish the term, the museum displayed his medical records, notes from his doctors and his family with respect to his health.)

He turned the campaign around with the "Fala Speech," a recording of which, in full, could be accessed at a display.

Enjoy.
