Erdogan hates everybody, and double for Kurds. He pretty much has Putin begging for whatever shipping he will let pass. Any replacement may be less favorable.....

That's if he is dead or sidelined and someone more reasonable takes over in Turkey.

(101,505 posts)"We categorically reject such baseless claims regarding President @RTErdogans health. The President will attend tomorrow's nuclear power plant opening via videoconference," the country's Communications Director Fahrettin Altun said on Twitter.
"No amount of disinformation can dispute the fact that the Turkish people stand with their leader and @RTErdogan and his AK (Justice and Development) Party are set to win the May 14 elections," Altun added.
The directorate's center for combating disinformation also said the claims shared on some social media accounts that President Erdogan "had a heart attack and was hospitalized" did not reflect the truth.

Yes. I have no tolerance for spreading "fake news" and conspiracy theories as if they are the known truth.
That the way the Trumpists behave, We Democrats need to do a whole lot better than this.
Nothing confusing about that. And it only seems "controversial" here on DU. Not much of a recommend for this forum, sorry to say.

(38,047 posts)ANKARA, April 26 (Reuters) - Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan canceled his scheduled campaign rallies on Wednesday and Thursday for health reasons, weeks before May 14 presidential and parliamentary elections.
"Today, I will rest at home with the advice of my doctors," Erdogan wrote on his Twitter account on Wednesday.
Later, AK Party deputy chair Erkan Kandemir said Erdogan would attend a ceremony at the Akkuyu nuclear power plant in the southern Mersin province via videolink on Thursday.
"Our Mersin rally is also planned to be held on a future date," he posted on Twitter.
Late on Tuesday, Erdogan cut short a live TV interview during which he said he felt sick with an upset stomach...

(6,256 posts)over two hours and the production value is very high. I got addicted to them during the pandemic and have learned a tremendous amount about Turkish history staring with Ertugrul all the way through the Ottoman Empire. At first, Erdogan was not a fan of the shows but then realized that the shows portrayed Turks and Islam in a very positive manner. The shows are subtitled but easy to follow.

Voting begins today with Turkish citizens abroad, but in Turkey not until May 14. Polling shows slight lead for the opposition.

(5,104 posts)He has been a disaster for democracy in that country.
Liberal democracy is under threat around the globe, and at home. Part of the problem, in my estimation, is the populist tendency to embrace a conspiracy theory mentality rather than embracing reason.
One can't have a liberal society w/o a commitment to reason and reality-based thinking.
Unfortunately anti-liberal reactionary tendencies are not found exclusively on the populist right.
Those who study how liberal democracy failed in Weimar Germany can see the same patterns.
The far-left in Germany (including Antifaschistische Aktion aka "Antifa" declared that the Social Democrats were "social fascists" and they made democrats, not the Nazis, their main enemies.
Will the liberal center hold in this country? I hope so, but this is a time of great peril.
Hortensis
(58,785 posts)he was working on growing the alliance of both RW and LW extremists against the Democrats guarding our democracy that advanced his goals so well then. The GOP's of course already become a RW extremist party.
He knows how to destroy democracies from personal experience, as well as from studying history.
Just A Box Of Rain
(5,104 posts)biggest blunder. But he has been an absolute master of promoting anti-democratic/anti-Democratic forces who are hostile to liberal democracy on both the populist right and the populist far-left.
In that he's been highly successful, not only in the USA with the election of Donald J Trump, but the same scenario is playing out in liberal democracies around the globe.
Spreading disinformation, while actively undermining people's trust in the responsible free press, is all part of the master plan.
