Senator Bernie Sanders joins Jen Psaki for an exclusive interview to discuss Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, Democrat messaging on abortion, Trump's appeal to working class Americans and more. He also talks about his new book 'It's OK to be Angry about Capitalism.'

(29,110 posts)He was trying to talk about economic inequality and corporate greed, etc., and I strongly believe Corporate Media -- even MSNBC -- discourages that. You'll notice that their nightly lineup very rarely mentions Unions, for instance.

(29,110 posts)and given that the book's subject was anger at capitalism, I think she should have expected he'd go beyond the usual culture war topics.

(18,409 posts)It's a Sunday news show. Sanders is a United States senator. Jenn Psaki asked him for his perspective on the news that happened last week and the issues that drove that news. And she broke news with her question to Senator Sanders about Senator Feinstein.
To the extent that abortion is and has been a flashpoint, it can be characterized as part of a broader culture war, but at its core, the abortion issue is a human rights issue.

As you said yourself, it was the reason he was there.

Those were the issues and questions that drove the news last week. It's a Sunday news program, and that's what hosts ask about on Sunday news programs.

(29,110 posts)but anyone wanting to understand why Corporate Media might ALLOW certain topics to "drive the news", should pay more attention to what is NOT being said. As Bernie said repeatedly, "These things are NOT being talked about" and there's a reason for that.

(18,409 posts)I am not the one who is not paying attention.

(29,110 posts)They are definitely NOT wanting for attention at the moment. That said, some of us, on occasion, like to discuss other topics. You, it seems, do not fall into that category, and so I will wish you a good day.

(7,683 posts)She said she would get to the book at the top of the interview, but then never did explicitly. I'm glad Bernie is well-versed in getting his message out and managed to fend off this hijacking. His message is so important -- why treat him with such contempt like freezing your facial expression when Bernie was trying to add some levity at one point.

It's nice to hear from someone who's actually prepared to discuss the issue.
Psaki's painfully obvious attempt to hijackack the discussion resulted in an awkward, near hostile situation that made for a big "fail" of an interview.
I was a big fan of Psaki when she was Press Secretary, but this incident has me wondering.

(17,019 posts)abortion issue proved out of touch and wrong. He switched the subject in a very predictable way to his comfortable wheelhouse. I dont usually watch him because of the repetition and limited range, but Psakis questions were very good. She has great range and style all pertinent questions about current events.
