NY Democratic Party chair talks DNC, congressional district redraw
When asked about the political process that occurred when Chicago was picked over New York City for the convention, Jacobs said it was pretty clear that their focus is on the Midwest.
And Chicago met their goals of bringing attention to Democratic gains and Democratic strength in the Midwest, where its so important thats where many of the swing states are, he said. I think that President Biden [in] particular felt that it would be helpful to have it in Chicago and, you know, underscore the importance of the Midwest.
Mayor Eric Adams and other elected officials rallied in March in support of the citys bid to host DNC.
I think it would have been great here in New York, but were excited to go to Chicago, Jacobs said.
Meanwhile, Gov. Kathy Hochul and state Attorney General Letitia James are looking to have congressional and state legislative districts redrawn.
The effort comes after Republicans flipped multiple districts held by Democrats in last year's midterm election led, which ultimately gave Republicans control of the House.
Now they feel that we should go back, do it the right away, give the legislature another crack at it, and thats what should have been done in the first place and I fully support their efforts, Jacobs said about the redraw.
