IRVINE, CA Today, State Senator Dave Min reported raising over $520,000 from January 18th to March 31st for his campaign for Congress in Californias 47th Congressional District. Since launching his campaign, Min has built an incredible campaign team, with endorsements from incumbent Congresswoman Katie Porter, SEIU California, the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucuss political leadership ASPIRE PAC, and more than a 100 local and state elected officials. Californias 47th is an open Congressional District in Orange County that is being vacated by Rep. Porter who is running for U.S. Senate. In 2022, Porter defeated former Assemblymember Republican Scott Baugh by 3.44% and political handicappers have ranked it as a toss up district and a must win for Democrats in order to take back the House in 2024.
Dave Min has proven he can win in a red district, proven to be a consequential legislator, and has built a campaign that will win in 2024, said Fundraising Director Isabel Ocampo. The outpouring of support from Orange County voters is incredible, and we are so grateful for the hundreds of contributors, volunteers, and supporters who are the backbone of this campaign.
The commanding early fundraising numbers from Min highlight the campaigns strong grassroots support, with 78% of contributions being under $250, and are coupled with a truly jaw dropping list of local, state, and national endorsements. In recent weeks, Min has announced the endorsements from SEIU, the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 47, California Lieutenant Governor Eleni Kounalakis, Attorney General Rob Bonta, State Treasurer Fiona Ma, Insurance Commissioner Ricard Lara, Superintendent of Public Schools Tony Thurmond, the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucuss political leadership ASPIRE PAC, more than 50 local Orange County government officials, and more than 60 state legislators. A full endorsement list is available here.
Senator Min, the only Korean-American in the state legislature, serves as Chair of the Senate Natural Resources and Water Committee and as Senate Vice Chair of the Asian and Pacific Islander Legislative Caucus. Min has proven himself an incredibly effective legislative leader in the Senate, authoring 16 bills signed into law by the Governor, including leading legislation on hate crimes, gun violence prevention, family safety, and womens reproductive rights. In the wake of the 2021 Huntington Beach Oil Spill, he stood up to the oil industry and led efforts to end offshore drilling. Min serves as Chair of the Senate Natural Resources and Water Committee and as Senate Vice Chair of the Asian and Pacific Islander Legislative Caucus. He previously chaired the Senate Cybersecurity Select Committee.
