(111,367 posts)My 87 year old right wing dad told me in 2004 he was voting for Kerry. I was too busy picking my mandible up off the floor to ask him why but later on he mentioned the Swift Boat smear attack, said war veterans didn't do that to each other.
I do love blowback.
I'll bet anything tha the lawsuit with Domnion has something to do with it, the tapes of her right wing favorites all admitting they're lying on air and saying some pretty unflattering things about the channel.

(1,294 posts)as long as I can remember. He was also basically racist towards black people. Then some weird things started to happen. He made friends with a black neighborhood boy who he paid to help around the yard with him. He became insulted by how the R's treated vets and the Post Office which he retired from. He then started voting for Obama and Bernie! Pissed my mother off with that. lol.
I seriously never thought I would see that day. Evah!
But during that time he started addressing his PTSD as well. So there was a cloud lifting.

(12,639 posts)has been in storage in a Miami-area assisted living facility where Faux is on 18 hours a day. She now mindlessly parrots everything she hears and, when taken by the facility to the polls on election day, votes accordingly. ☹️

She doesn't remember anything good. Only the bad stuff. She's mean and angry all the time. Formerly, she was nasty only some of the time.
Mom was a Democrat all her life until 2016. She voted for Trump. She said, "I want to shake things up."
If you ask her about it now, she'll just give a blank stare. She feels she doesn't have to answer anyone's questions, but like to place demands on us.
Fortunately, we got her into assisted living two months ago. Now, I can just flee when things get too intense.

(58,785 posts)Agree it'd be far better to have a typical MAGA mom than a bitter, miserably unhappy one. At least yours is still a person and still knows you.
Brain damage from a series of ministrokes changed my very redoubtable, strong-minded Democratic MIL's personality dramatically, first very untypically bitter and unhappy like yours, then increasingly paranoid also and needing 24-hour care. Fortunately for her, because the person she'd been was already gone forever, she progressed with further damage to become a happy, perky little demented lady, trotting around cute as a button she'd never been. It was the worst-case (for her) nightmare she'd carefully planned to avoid by suicide come true, though.

(6,215 posts)Block FOX for health and safety reasons. Keep them from sending their life savings to the latest con.
Sadly when the time came, we had to take steps to take my dad's car keys away from him because he could not drive safely.
Then there was the insidious mailing he received every day begging for money and promising him he had won a new car; all he had to do was pay a shipping fee to have it delivered to his back door. A small $3000.00 fee.
We intervened with that one by moving the mailbox to the end of the long driveway. So the mailing truck could drive to the box and not drop the mail through the front door slot. He wasn't able to manage the steps. So one of the sisters who lived down the street "delivered" the mail to him in the house.
I hope when the time comes when I can't drive safely. I'm smart enough to give up my keys on my own. As for our mail, we have a shredder right next to the mail slot. One bag of shredded mail per month fixed that crap.

(3,772 posts)with every fiber of my being, Fox (News). I can't stand to look at Tucker's ridiculous face....he makes me literally sick. I guess the 1st amendment lets companies and people tell as many lies as they choose and they aren't at all concerned with any consequences. Something is wrong!!

(3,059 posts)Went through that last summer with my former Fox watching brother-in-law, who at one time, defended the Kavanaugh nomination. When I expressed my surprise, and frankly, joy at his decision, he said, "They're smart and they tell the truth." Sometimes it takes a while, but the scales eventually fall from most of their eyes.

(8,847 posts)but a little late............an un-fathomable amount of damage has been done these past 40+ years.
The reality is, that if we froze time, it would still take decades to un-do the shit that has been done in just the past 6+ years.........
