are being pushed forward in rabidly republican legislatures such as those in Texas, Florida, Idaho, Tennessee
If I were planning a second coming of the WORST of European dictatorships, I couldn't have made a more comprehensive assault on democracy and human to human compassion.
Beware we are very near America's "Troubles".

Of course the funders don't give a shit. They'll just print some more and pollute the media some more.

(13,903 posts)The christofascists have been working toward the goal of a christofascist theocracy since at least Reagan.
Unfortunately, I don't see their failure, by over playing their hand, as being a turning point back to sanity either.
The GOP has devolved, I don't know how you stuff the fascist genie back in the bottle.

(5,811 posts)pearls about the evil Republicans and yes they are evil. But here's the thing. WHITE WOMEN (I know. I'm yelling at the top of my lungs). gave the MAJORITY of their votes to these evil Republicans. Why. What the hell is wrong with them?
I know what's wrong with Republican men but the women. When I watch any discussion of abortion I immediately start silently hating on white women (I'm African American). I know it's not right but they continue to make this evil possible.
Please explain to me why. I don't see the why. I want to be able to see and understand the why.
And I want white women to stop speaking out of both sides of their mouths. When the pollster comes calling, she says she wants to keep abortion legal and safe. Yet she votes for people who will do any and everything to invade a woman's privacy so they can control a woman.s body.
I need somebody to make it make sense.

(2,047 posts)The rioters were understandably angry that our little city didn't bring murder charges against the third fatality caused by one of our cops.
Yet, for the rioters and much of the US the details remained under a shade. That killer cop was in fact a black cop, and most of the rioters didn't know that. They were out to avenge themselves against oppressors. Of course, the committee that chose not to bring charges were 7 people in a population of 35K.
That was Oct of 2020, The killer cop is now a county deputy sheriff in an adjacent county
But here things have changed for the worse. In this neighborhood of mostly elderly women, there is fear of noises that come in the night.

(10,768 posts)They constantly complain about the level of crime, and it has increased in Austin as in other major cities, especially property crimes. Until recently, we had a terrible city manager, and we still have a terrible police chief, but who do the women (and some men) blame for crime when they post on our local Nextdoor? Biden and liberals. Austin is a Democratic city, but the burbs are filled with plenty of Republicans, and they have so much white privilege that they dont have a clue what happens to people who struggle just to live.
I think women vote for Republicans because their husbands do and because theyre busy with kids, and school, and sometimes jobs. They dont follow politics the way we do because they dont actually have the time. Their kids are in good schools with few minorities, and they want to keep it that way because theyve been told that minority kids are a bad influence. Certainly, not all white families here are wealthy, but theyre generally better off than most minority familiesand they want to keep whatever wealth they do have and pay as little tax as possible. The influence of right-wing evangelicalism is strong here, and few white evangelical woman will vote for a Democrat because theyve been told over and over that Democrats are pedophiles and baby killers. Its a lie that Republican politicians have used effectively.

(37,931 posts)The abortion ban amendment failed miserably in the strategically placed PRIMARY ballot in August. Placed by republicans expecting low dem turnout. Then, less then 3 months later Kansans went to the polls and gave republicans a majority (again) in the house and senate. Totally absurd, and the pubs are being their typical asinine ignorant hateful selves in the current session.
