NPR article yesterday on Musk not being able to explain his reasons:
https://www.npr.org/2023/04/06/1168455846/elon-musk-says-nprs-state-affiliated-media-label-might-not-have-been-accurate
In one email exchange, Musk appeared to be unclear about the difference between public media and state-controlled media when he decided to affix a state-affiliated media label on NPR's account.
"Well, then we should fix it," Musk wrote in an email on Wednesday to this reporter, when told that government support represents about 1% of NPR's finances.

Musk, in another email, compared NPR to media outlets controlled by governments of other countries, while also admitting "it sounds like" that might not be the case.

Amid the conflicting remarks, in a Thursday email, Musk restated his interest in applying "any given rule fairly to all," and he said the label for NPR's account is still being evaluated.

The article goes on to point out other times chaos has been the norm on Musk's Twitter.
Of course with NPR not tweeting, fewer people using Twitter will see the article.
I pointed out in another thread - https://www.democraticunderground.com/100217799296 and see the replies, too - that I believe Musk is going after NPR because they made it clear before Trump's speech Tuesday that they would not carry it live. Hours after that was tweeted, Musk posted a meme suggesting that if Dems had a time machine, they'd go back decades and try to kill Trump before he got into politics.
I suspect Musk sees labeling NPR state-affiliated media, comparable to Russian and Chinese propaganda outlets, as the perfect response to NPR explaining why they won't give Trump as much media attention as he demands. If it stops NPR from using Twitter, he'll be happy.
And if NPR goes back to tweeting while that defamatory label is still there, Musk and his troll followers will say that proves NPR knows the label is accurate.
EDITING because I forgot to add that NPR has changed its Twitter profile/bio:
Link to tweet
NPR hasn't tweeted since Musk's unjust labeling decision, and its bio now directs visitors elsewhere: "You can find us every other place you read the news."
