Yes, much has been made about Donald Trump using his New York indictment and other pending legal troubles as campaign finance fuel.
Yes, his supporters are trying to frame him as some sort of righteous outlaw, some sort of Robin Hood, sticking it to the Man and the dreaded Deep State perpetually trying to bring him down.
Hell, Marge Greene actually compared to Nelson Mandela and Jesus.
Yes, Jesus. No joke.
But let's not fool ourselves about any of this. For all the punditry talk about Donald Trump using this unprecedented indictment to his political advantage, for all the long-winded, all-caps tweets--err, sorry, "Truths"--from the Former Office Occupant, there's one thing that's absolutely undeniable.
He hates this.
He absolutely hates every single thing about this.
Of all the images from Tuesday, one of the most indelible of all was this still photo of Trump in the courtroom:
It's rather astonishing. You see him sitting in this dark, dingy, wood-paneled New York criminal courtroom. He's wearing his trademark red tie but conspicuously absent is that trademark shit-eating smirk of his. Instead, his face remains plain, his eyes signaling considerable discomfort. He's sitting hunched over in the middle of the Defendant's table, surrounded by his no-name, two-bit Defense attorneys and a couple of uniformed officers of the Court.
And in this one picture, we see someone who once held the very highest office in the land, and who was presumably one of the most powerful men on earth, and yet he looks no different than any other pathetic defendant in any other highly publicized criminal trial that we've seen splashed on TV over the decades.
And what's worse is that while, yes, this day is all about him, it's not about his power. Because the guy who once sat at the Resolute Desk in the Oval Office for four years is now sitting in an undersized chair at a plain wooden Defendant's table, and he's not the guy in charge in the room. Instead, he's literally facing a judge, a common state court judge at the trial level, and that judge is now the most important and powerful guy in this world instead of him.
And that absolutely has to kill him. The lack of power. The lack of control. For all the bluster, for all the showmanship of his private jet, of his tall Manhattan Tower, of his gilded Mar-a-Lago palace, everything about him here is centered in this fluorescently-lit, cheap wood paneled criminal courtroom.
In short, he now feels like what we have already known him to be for years: a loser.
He knows he's a loser, because he committed the very worst sin that he could ever imagine, and that was that he got caught.
There's no actual remorse for his deeds because there's never been any actual conscience in the man, but there is now a gnawing internal sense of self-pity and self-hatred because he's been forced to account. And that betrays all dignity.
Remember he teased and demeaned John McCain for his perceived sin of being captured in wartime. And while in actuality being a Prisoner of War is absolutely nothing like being a criminal defendant charged with multiple felonies, in Trump's feeble, malignantly narcissitic mind, there is no difference.
He got caught. And now he's a loser.
So yes, he hates this.
He hates every single waking minute of it.
And I, for one, can't be any happier for that fact.

(43,435 posts)I used to rule the world
Seas would rise when I gave the word
Now in the morning I sleep alone
Sweep the streets I used to own
I used to roll the dice
Feel the fear in my enemys eyes
Listened as the crowd would sing
Now the old king is dead long live the king
One minute I held the key
Next the walls were closed on me
And I discovered that my castles stand
Upon pillars of salt and pillars of sand
I hear Jerusalem bells a-ringing
Roman cavalry choirs are singing
Be my mirror, my sword and shield
Missionaries in a foreign field
For some reason I cant explain
Once youd gone there was never
Never an honest word
And that was when I ruled the world
It was a wicked and wild wind
Blew down the doors to let me in
Shattered windows and the sound of drums
People couldnt believe what Id become
Revolutionaries wait
For my head on a silver plate
Just a puppet on a lonely string
Oh who would ever want to be king?
I hear Jerusalem bells a-ringing
Roman cavalry choirs are singing
Be my mirror, my sword and shield
My missionaries in a foreign field
For some reason I cant explain
I know St Peter wont call my name
Never an honest word
But that was when I ruled the world
Hear Jerusalem bells a-ringing
Roman cavalry choirs are singing
Be my mirror, my sword and shield
My missionaries in a foreign field
For some reason I cant explain
I know St Peter wont call my name
Never an honest word
But that was when I ruled the world

(23,614 posts)was finally decided and announced, I remember several people commenting that, despite Trump claiming that he won, there was no violence. I also remember that I said that his followers would get more vocal, belligerent, and out of control as time went on and we got closer to inauguration day. And then J6 was worse than even I expected.
So, as more indictments come, I expect the MAGA reaction to get worse. I don't know how far they will go, or how bad it will get. But I do expect violence.

(4,227 posts)I think the violence this time will be scattered, like power station attacks and shooting into homes, until they can replicate the J6 conditions: massive numbers and pushback crippled.

Nope. Nopity nope, nope, nope, said the judge.

(23,614 posts)silently planning his next move to regain control outside of the courtroom. I can easily imagine him thinking that he will never let anyone put him in that position again. So he silently thinks over what he can do to prevent the court from having control over him again.
As he gets more desperate, his "solutions" will be more bizarre, maybe more violent if he can get the sipporters for it.

That is because he is no different... at least he would not be if it were not for our two-tiered justice system and the MSM saying this type of thing all the time. WE ARE EQUAL UNDER THE LAW. If we are not (and we are not) then they need to just stop with the propaganda.

Mr.Bill
(24,589 posts)is that the fact that it took so long to indict him and one DA not indicting him at all is being used as proof that he couldn't possibly be guilty of anything. The right wing talking point I'm seeing here and there on the internet is if he was guilty, why was he not indicted a long time ago?
And I bet we will hear the same thing with any other indictments yet to come. This is one of the dangers of taking so long. But, I'm no expert on these matters, just an observation on my part, and maybe somtheing that should be addressed by some of the more liberal talking heads.

(34,709 posts)I think it was in 2012, Chump sat in the audience quietly fuming, while everyone was laughing and Obama told his jokes. We've seen the Youtube video on DU before, it's a classic. Chump just sat there quietly fuming, and that was when he vowed to get revenge on Obama.
This picture sort of reminds me of that night. We should get used to this version of Chump, because we'll be seeing a lot more of the fuming, angry Chump who just sits there, stony-faced.

(10,406 posts)I think his face reflects what his lawyers told him.
You can never guarantee a legal outcome but Bragg seems to have a good case.
He's got him on the misdemeanors and he has a bunch of paths to flip them into felonies.
They'll challenge to have the case moved.
They'll drag it out as much as they can with appeals, etc
They'll challenge via the statute of limitations though it doesn't favor Trump.
They'll challenge via the John Edwards "trying to protect Melania" but Bragg has emails that refute that.
They'll challenge the path from misdemeanor to felony but they have so many, it is hard to imagine one won't stick.
One thing folks haven't talked about:
Weisselberg and probably others are weighing flipping.
This indictment shatters the Teflon Don persona.
It gives them an indication of what is to come when they hear the GA, Mar-a-lago and Jan6th cases are stronger with more teeth.
Weisselberg would certainly know the threat of bank & insurance fraud and tax crimes Trump faces.
I don't think this indictment hurts the various DoJs trying to flip witnesses.
Trump has to face EJ Carroll's rape suit later this month. These indictments don't help his cause.
Trump has to face AG James $250 mil civil suit in October. These indictments don't help his cause.
I still think NY is going to nail him with more indictments for financial fraud, tax crimes and conspiracy or racketeering.
The GA, Mar-a-lago and Jan6th cases seem to be progressing well - going against Trump.
From that, it is possible that this day may be the best day of the rest of his life. It could be all downhill from here.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boris_Epshteyn
He ran a cryptocurrency startup into the ditch with Steve Bannon.(more at the Wikipedia link)
In October 2013, Epshteyn moderated a panel at the investment conference "Invest in Moscow!". The panel was composed mainly of Moscow city government officials, including Sergey Cheremin, a city minister who heads Moscow's foreign economic and international relations department.[18]
After Trump lost the election, Epshteyn was a member of a team that gathered at a "command center" in the Willard Hotel one block from the White House days before Joe Biden's victory was to be certified by Vice President Mike Pence in the Senate chamber on January 6. The team's objective was to prevent Biden's victory from being certified.

Trump and accountability aren't on close terms.
As for the money we are told has been flowing in from supporters - really?
Some confirmation needed on that $$$ amount from an independent source.
Trump's problems aren't fixable with money, no matter how big the pile is.
When he said 'I am your retribution' it was a clear signal to cut him off at the knees before any 'retribution' could be organised and put into practise.
Promising revenge on those he feels have wronged him over the years calls for a strong and immediate response - no option left to go soft on him.
