In the vernacular: the safer a neighborhood, the more people say they're scared of crime....

(70,703 posts)when joe moore was 1st elected, crime was high here. in his 2nd term, crime drop precipitously, but it remained the #1 issue for a lot of ppl.
ppl r remarkably stubborn. they also bitched about the schools, which r not in an alderpersons remit. nonetheless, he worked on the issue. he got a major expansion of 2 schools, and brought in a high achieving charter. but still, after crime, schools were the #1 beef.

But it fits on a bumper sticker.

(70,703 posts)cuz i assumed every journalist who asked about it would follow up w- what does that mean?
didnt happen. fortunately a lot of what was meant by it has come to pass in some places. even here in chgo, theyve been trying to get cops out of mh calls.
we also elected a citizen oversight board in this cycle.
lots of cities are moving that way.
i think insurance companies are pushing some reforms, too.
