Hope other Dems interested in better messaging

will take time to watch this Politics Girl podcast. Leigh McGowan interviews Billy Ray, an award winning screenwriter, director, and now an adviser of Democratic leaders in Washington D.C.

I started over and am now combing through it taking notes. Lots of fascinating insights that explain a lot of what I'd previously found puzzling.

A few tidbits:
Conservatives share a common value, a fear of chaos, long associating it with liberals. Now the case can be made easily and truthfully that the Radical Right is bringing chaos. Independent swing voters who lean right and other conservatives will vote for the party they associate with calm, steady governing.

Freedom is the number one value of all Americans, and is 22 points higher than justice is. Dems rarely run on freedom, but it's a powerful opportunity. (And it's been used effectively against us too with the gun issue, COVID vaccines, and masks. But understanding is power.)

1. Freedom to make your own decisions about your

reproductive health care. Freedom to make medical decisions for your child. Freedom for your children from parenting by people who are not their parents.

2. Freedom to learn.

Freedom of dissent. Freedom of speech. Freedom to choose the path you want your life to take, including whether and when to have children. Freedom of self-expression and self-determination of identity.

Freedom from oppression. Freedom to be safe in schools and public places. Freedom from fear of gun and other violence targeting children and adults. Freedom from threat.

Freedom (or the right) to have access to information and to varied viewpoints necessary to be an informed citizen in what provided by media news outlets and those that broadcast perspectives on that news.

The right to respond to personal attacks in broadcast media on the same channel and in the same time slot to address the main audience that heard one side of the attack and should have the freedom to hear any defense.
