General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsIs the Republican party so unified behind Trump because they think he's their own only hope in 2024?
Is their slavish devotion to him because they don't view any of the other potential 2024 presidential candidates on the GOQ side as electable against Biden/Harris and figure he's their best shot to make the 2024 Biden re-elect even somewhat competitive for them? To me, that's the only conceivable reason why they have such slavish sick devotion to this monster!
Also, does Pence really want to be President? Acting outraged against something happening that would give you a better chance at the nomination seems a bit counterintuitive.

(12,509 posts)GOP voters are solidly behind Trump BECAUSE he's so hated by the Left.
Re-Electing Trump would be the greatest "F-U" to the Left in history.
Just another case of "own the libs"
It's childish and pathetic, of course... but I think that's the rationale.

(1,835 posts)Explains a lot of it. They're not wrong, TBH. Also, if they ever did manage to get him re-elected, I know I would be one of those on the left who took it as a personal F-u and I would feel owned as I, do, indeed hate him.
The post about how he expreses the ideals that they were scared to openly espouse for so long in a different reply post also makes a lot of sense.

(7,878 posts)Some Republican politicians follow him for this same reason while others follow him because they know if they try to turn on him, he will turn all those voters on them and they will inevitably be ousted from office (most likely via a primary challenge).

(3,541 posts)It has been pretty obvious that they are sticking with their story; tRump is innocent of all charges, the DOJ is being used as a political weapon directed by the White House, all the many lawsuits coming from all directions are just part of a massive witch hunt to bring the GOP down. Look at that pathetic CNN interview with Pence. Its the only path they see forward; blame it all on Biden and hope the base is stupid enough to buy it.
Hint; they are. 😬

(3,736 posts)trump is the least likely republican to win the general election in 2024.
Moderate and independent voters starkly abandoned him in 2020 vs 2016. Do they really think all that has happened since then will SWAY them to return to him in 2024??
