CNN Donald Trump faces more than 30 counts related to business fraud in an indictment from a Manhattan grand jury, according to two sources familiar with the case the first time in American history that a current or former president has faced criminal charges.
The indictment has been filed under seal and will be announced in the coming days. The charges are not publicly known at this time. Trump will likely be arraigned in court early next week, according to his defense attorney, Joe Tacopina.
The DAs office has been investigating the former president in connection with his alleged role in a hush money payment scheme and cover-up involving adult film star Stormy Daniels that dates to the 2016 presidential election. Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Braggs office will reach out to Trumps attorneys to discuss his surrender to face an arraignment.
The decision is sure to send shockwaves across the country, pushing the American political system which has never seen one of its ex-leaders confronted with criminal charges, let alone while running again for president into uncharted waters.

(24,897 posts)I don't think it is all the 130k hush money check. It may include other threats or bribes to influence witnesses or something like that.

(129,750 posts)that when "monthly" checks were being written out and sent to Cohen for a reimbursement, and those were labeled as a legal services "retainer", each one might be a "count". And similar checks might have been issued for the other "catch and kill" individual (I had seen something earlier today and about her case possibly getting folded in).

(3,463 posts)CNN is citing "two sources". That could easily be the Trump team putting out false info to muddy the waters.
MSNBC has been reporting that talks between the judge and the DA's office are ongoing to possibly unseal the indictments early due to the public interest.
So at this moment, I'm going to wait and see, because my number one expectation is that as soon as they can do it, the Trump team will pull every dirty trick in the book to manipulate public perception.
So, I'm just staying tuned until further reporting confirms or refutes this.

(2,848 posts)He claimed that payment as a business expense. That was blatant tax fraud as a payment like that wasn't a legitimate item to deduct from taxable income. On top of campaign finance wrongdoing.
