'For months, the Trump Organization paid New York City lawyer Nicholas Gravante to represent Weisselberg. But according to two people familiar with the situation who spoke with The Daily Beast on the condition of anonymity, Gravante wasnt Trumpy enough to keep onboard.
Five people who spoke to The Daily Beast did confirm that Weisselberg is now being represented by defense lawyer Seth L. Rosenberg, who previously spent time running the rackets bureau at the very same DAs office that is now investigating the case.
According to two people familiar with the situation and one law enforcement source, prosecutors in recent weeks have discussed applying additional pressure to Weisselberg, who is currently behind bars in the dreaded New York City jail at Rikers Island until at least April.'

(21,323 posts)Gravante represented his client instead of Trump. Trump can't have an honest lawyer working for him.

(7,849 posts)Gravante took the job knowing who paid his retainer...he may have advocated for his client but Weisselberg did not flip on Trump...but now that there is the specter of additional charges and more prison time with the real possibility Weisselberg at 75 could die behind bars, Gravante is out...why?...I suspect because the checks stopped coming..and I suspect Weisseberg in prison benefits Trump...according to The Daily Beast it was Weisselberg's decision to hire a new lawyer but if doesn't flip, doesn't "unbury the bodies"...what's the point...

Why does the headline say that Trump.org fired Gravante?

(7,849 posts)and yes, he may have represented Hunter Biden, but Trump is not an unknown...he lies, cheats, steals, manipulates.. but Gravante still took the job knowing who signs his checks..

(7,849 posts)added charges and more prison time became a real possibility, the Trump Organization deemed Gravante's history of working with Bragg's office on behalf of his client a liability and the payments stopped...Weisseberg is as vile and corrupt as Trump but maybe the real possibility of dying behind bars to protect Trump, a guy who doesn't give two shits about him, is enough to give him pause and save himself

It may be that Weisselberg, not Trump, wasn't happy with the attorneys who'd been hired by Trump.
Nick made sure that Weisselberg cooperated with both the defense and the prosecution and Weisselbergs testimony at trial was extremely helpful to the defense and hurt the prosecution, Necheles said. Mr. Weisselbergs decision to change lawyers was entirely his own, a decision which I understand Mr. Weisselberg made in consultation with his family after the conclusion of the trial.

(7,812 posts)he knows a lot more about Stormy, about fraud, maybe even about money laundering that we all have heard a bit about. He doesn't want 'to go against the family' as Brando put it...we're talking about global oligarchs and corrupt governments potentially getting exposed...either by Weisselberg or by Trump if Trump starts to go down.
IIRC his son was also under investigation but Weisselberg still didn't fully cooperate...agreed to just limited testimony I believe.
