Cleveland Elementary in San Diego. Brenda Spencer was depressed so her father bought her guns to practice shooting as a hobby. She later said in an interview that he bought the GUNS so she would kill herself. She said she asked for a radio and got guns. Brenda Spencer is of the "I don't like Mondays" infamy.

Wikipedia: "The Cleveland Elementary School shooting was a school shooting that took place on January 29, 1979, at Grover Cleveland Elementary School in San Diego, California, United States. The principal and a custodian were murdered; eight children and police officer Robert Robb were injured. A 16-year-old girl, Brenda Spencer, who lived in a house across the street from the school, was convicted of the shootings. Charged as an adult, she pleaded guilty to two counts of murder and assault with a deadly weapon, and was sentenced to life in prison with a chance of parole after 25 years."

Horribly depressing situation.

She said her Dad bought her the rifle hoping she’d kill herself with it.

Wikipedia: "In December, a psychiatric evaluation arranged by her probation officer recommended that Spencer be admitted to a mental hospital for depression, but her father refused to give permission. For Christmas 1978, he gave her a Ruger 10/22 semi-automatic .22 caliber rifle with a telescopic sight and 500 rounds of ammunition.[5][7] Spencer later said, "I asked for a radio and got a rifle." Asked why he had done that, she answered, "He bought the rifle so I would kill myself."

Ugh - not in any way meant as an excuse but …

After her parents separated, she allegedly lived in poverty with her father, Wallace Spencer. Both father and daughter slept on a single mattress on the living room floor in a house strewn with empty bottles from alcoholic drinks.

points out the reality of school massacres. Just like the host on MSNBC did a segment on what an assault rifle does to the body of a child victim - just horrific. She said people really weren't getting it.

There are way too many trumpsters, racists, hateful, troubled individuals out there with easy access to weapons/guns of war. Hell, I'm a Democrat. Trump has labeled me the enemy, and I have a neighbor who has "3 percent" crap on his truck. I know he's in the military & has guns. He's very big & scary & stand offish.

And re: the Brenda Spencer story. I don't quite remember the gory details of her home life. I thought her father was a college professor.

Perhaps someone edited the Wikipedia page to reflect a mental health issue. Republicans keep pushing Mental Instability issues that need to be addressed not gun ownership. - which is a bunch of bullshit. Some of the most unhinged, troubled people I know are trumpsters - true cultists.

factored in.

I'll go first: San Ysidro McDonalds, 1984. 23 people killed, 19 people wounded. [It was July and kids were out and about on summer break & youngsters were working summer jobs]. - Wikipedia

I had just left the post office, that was adjacent to that San Ysidro McDonalds. I got back to my office at the Port of Entry w/news pouring in about "shootings" occurring in that area. Fortunately for me, I made the decision to not pick up a cup of coffee that day.

Yes, the degree of separation is getting smaller.
