Really, if the shooter is a bio-female who's been taking testosterone and transitioning to male, and then goes on a murderous rampage ... it's almost a worse look than if it's a trans woman.

But it's really not a look good either way. Completely unfairly, of course, but unless the TN cops are lying ... this just plays into the transphobes hands.

all the neighbors interviewed that knew her and her parents referred to her. I'm suspicious of this transgender proclamation this early in. Especially in light of the whole trans, drag queen freak outs on the R's part of late. And I'm really disappointed at the plastering of it all over this site as if it were a solid fact at this point. What I saw/heard was that Every official who spoke at the briefing used the term she/her/woman. The chief did say “they” a couple of times, but that’s common-speak so I didn’t think anything of it. During question time, a reporter asked if it was true that the shooter identified as transG. The Chiefs response was yes. There was a follow up question asking if the shooter identified as a transgender man or woman. Chief responded she identified as a woman. He answered the reporter questions but didn’t dwell on it and none of the officials said anything about the shooter being trans until the reporters asked.

My heart sank when that question was asked and answered. Every time a person of a marginalized population commits a crime, that population ends up being targeted by the fascists on the right even more. It’s not right, it’s not fair, it is the reality.

I’ve been watching MSNBC and they have been very consistent about the use of she/her and not saying much about the fact she was a trans woman. (Although as I finish this, They’ve pretty much moved on from the shooting story to talking about the usual topic).

I must admit to my own bias… when I first heard 28-year-old female, My first snarky thought was that it must be a Maggot cult member who attended the rally this weekend. Reminder to work on my own jumping to conclusions…

22. Well, immediately after posting this...

I started reading other articles, and there really seems to be differing reports. That’s not really surprising as there often is confusion after events like this, but it’s always frustrating. Most of the articles I’m reading now are just saying “the suspect”. So while the Chief said what he said, I guess we don’t know if he was correct.

And in the end the only thing that will matter about any aspect of the shooters life will be in how the right wing spins it to try and deflect away from the fact that a person walked into a building with assault weapons and ended the lives of six human beings.
