Trump arrived shortly before 6 p.m., his plane circling the airport as attendees intently looked to the heavens. He wrapped up at 7:32 in the evening, though quite a few fans did not last that long.
About 30 minutes into the rally, the crowd began to thin, with people getting a head start on the walk back to the parking lots, designated and otherwise. Several leaving early said they accomplished what they wanted to achieve by showing up for the rally, enduring traffic and long lines. Some said after hours on the tarmac, they were tired, hungry or both and wanted to get home.

Eating a snack will make you less hungry,
Attending a trump rally will only make you more stupid

(51,106 posts)known he was going to be photographed a lot. Love how the article said the crowd was ethnically diverse. Effing media.
Nerdy of me, but I calculated as follows:
3 bleachers, holding 300 each (10 rows by 30 people/row) = 900
3 center seating sections (20 rows x 20 seats) = 1200
Bullpen standing sections in a wedge around the stage = est 600?
People standing behind the center seats Est 600?
4,000 at best?

(91,204 posts)What NPR did was lazy and vey disappointing: they took the Trump campaigns prior claim to expected numbers and did not check further.
We (DU and the public) went through that during the first DC protest against BushCheney. The Washington Post said there were only a few hundred but there were DUers actually on the ground who sent their photos back here. It was an asinine claim on WaPos part, and they finally settled on something like several thousand.
It is really quite easy to do a rough estimate of crowd size if you have a camera, and a tall building or a helicopter. You get your photos and lay down a grid, rough-count the number of people in a square, and multiply that by the number of squares. That is kind of what our own skeptical DUers are doing by eyeball right now.
Trump and his minions need to be fact-checked every time they open their mouths its tedious, but necessary.

This week we're running a special pop-up mini fund drive. From Monday through Friday we're going ad-free for all registered members, and we're asking you to kick in to the DU tip jar to support the site and keep us financially healthy.
As a bonus, making a contribution will allow you to leave kudos for another DU member, and at the end of the week we'll recognize the DUers who you think make this community great.
