Time span from indictment to Trump actually serving sentence?

As cynical as I am about how our legal system has been lethargically handling Trump's many crimes, I think we're finally at the point where at least one investigation will bear fruit with at least one indictment, hopefully within the next six months.

That doesn't mean I feel any better about how things will go after that, in terms of time until verdict, and then time until some sort of sentence (probably not actual, real prison) is carried out.

• I expect a long delay after indictment until trial, with many, many delays requested and granted.
  
• I expect a ridiculously drawn-out trial.
  
• If convicted, I expect a ridiculously long gap after conviction until a sentencing hearing.
  
• I expect Trump will be allowed to remain free until all appeals are exhausted, all the way up to the SCOTUS.

What do you think? This poll question presumes indictment leads to a guilty verdict.

E. Jean Carroll has taken over 3 1/2 years to get Trump to trial for her civil suit.

If Trump is indicted that doesn't mean the trial will follow shortly. Then even after a trial is scheduled and if Trump is convicted there will be appeals.

I think that it will take 3 years at least after an indictment to hold the trial. Also, Trump may be convicted and his sentence may not involve jail time.

Of if there is (are) an indictment(s) there will need to be a conviction before sentencing.

I agree he would remain free during appeals.

So here it is:

Not knowing when or if Trump will be indicted, the estimate is one minute from the time he is is indicted (if ever) to one minute before he kicks the bucket -------- 1vote (13%)

And this is the only time estimate that is not ridiculous considering current state of events.

8. It depends on the charges and venue

Simpler charges like obstruction, election interference/fraud and even the Espionage Act are more likely to get convictions quickly compared to seditous conspiracy and obstructing an official proceeding.

Trials in DC are more likely to convict, GA perhaps less so.

I think it’s possible for verdicts to be reached between 12-18 mos for simpler charges, 18-24 mos for more complex charges.

Now being convicted, and reporting for prison are two different things- I think actual sentencing could be another 3-6 mos after conviction. Whether Trump would be released pending appeal would be up to the judge- I think in DC, he would wait for his appeal in prison. Elsewhere, I’m not sure he would.

It sure feels like there are generally more people around here who are more bullish on Trump getting his just deserts than the poll reflects.

15. My choice

Trump flees to Vietnam, who won't throw him back. There are quite a few countries without extradition treaties with the US, but Switzerland, Qatar and Saudi Arabia would probably hand him over as a sign of good faith between the nations.
