https://www.nbcchicago.com/news/local/florida-gov-ron-desantis-to-speak-at-police-event-monday-in-chicago-suburbs/3076717/Even before Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis' scheduled appearance in the Chicago suburbs on Monday, news of the Republican's upcoming visit sparked a reaction in the Chicago mayor's race and from Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker.
DeSantis will speak at an event entitled "Law and Order Illinois" in Elmhurst, which is being promoted by - but not hosted by - Chicago Lodge 7 of the Fraternal Order of Police.
Speaking Friday, Pritzker sent a clear message about his priorities as governor, while leveling criticism against DeSantis, who is seen as a possible contender in the 2024 presidential election.
"I think every elected official and every candidate for office ought to be calling him out and denouncing what he stands for, and I am sure that he's going to repeat when he comes," Pritzker said.

(17,006 posts)Seems like there may be a little discord in the FOP. Pretty bad when the candidate youre supporting comes out against the speaker youre promoting.

(32,085 posts)I don't think it will ultimately provide the results he wants. The people of Florida might love him, but his shit isn't going to work in a lot of places outside of his state.

(9,074 posts)Because crime is going to be an issue in the 2024 election guaranteed.
He's going to tee up as a "law and order" type and see what it can do in the swing states. And how would you do that? Go into the big cities where the crime stories are - and as an added benefit, Democratic mayors and prosecutors he can lay it on - and find the disgruntled to speak to the narrative he's weaving. "I've spoken with police in the big cities, crime is a problem, and it's the Democrats' fault."
If anyone is able to trademark the phrase "Soros prosecutors" and collect royalties on it, I suggest filing now. We're all going to be very tired of that phrase in about a year.
I don't think anything he or the Right is doing is all that mysterious. They're pretty open about their plans and strategies. They're not making a secret of any of it.

I wouldn't be surprised to see him pop up in other places like Seattle, Portland, SF, LA, etc.
Any city where crime has been in the news for the past few years, he's going buzz on in to start laying his eggs.
The man is not stupid. People keep thinking he is for some reason. It's dangerous. He has a plan.
PortTack
(32,771 posts)Is he dangerous yes, does he have a plan yes. Making blue cities central to his plan will only make the blue cities, where elections are won and lost more determined to not vote for the party of GUNS!
Oh yes, Im tough on crime, but lets not do anything about the guns. JMHO but thats a piss poor arguement.
Sympthsical
(9,074 posts)But he's not trying to make an argument to you or me. What we think is immaterial.
If I were him, I would make a deal of blue cities in blue states. States he knows he'd never win. If people there get pissed off, who cares? But crime has popped up again and again in voter concerns and priorities. He doesn't need to win people who he'll never win anyway. He just needs to peel away enough people in swing states. People who are discontent with crime.
Think of San Francisco and how Chesa Boudin got sent packing.
If he can stoke that sentiment in places without attacking those places, it helps him.
That's what I think this Police in Big Cities tour is about.

(32,771 posts)It may win him the nomination.
Tfg is going to be his ruination. Not sure if tfg will go 3rd party, but you can bet hell tell his cult, that will always remain loyal not to vote for him splitting the gqp even further. He and his handlers ought to be looking at that, not running around the country touting hes the candidate of law and order especially when FL ranks middle of the road in crime
really not a great track record. NY rates actually the same as FL

PortTack
(32,771 posts)But I do know he will do his damnedest to convince his voters not to vote, and bash him every chance he gets. The cult is not loyal to little rooonie, they are loyal to tfg.
As far as desatan coming to Illinois..good luck with that
