If they call me "woke," I thank them for the compliment.
I think it might bother them.

(17,962 posts)Funny how all the dimwits wear "smart glasses" now. From Boebert to Stefanik. Seems Rick Perry, the C and D student at A&M, started a trend. It's not working. At least MTG eschews such nonsense. She embraces her stupidity.

Now that I think of it, feces-throwing and smearing is something many primates are known for.

(13,195 posts)I personally think it's an unusably bad term. It's holier-than-thou, priggish. It has a built-in insult for those who don't want to consider themselves categorized by it: "You're not awake; you're asleep." They're even, as this OP implies, "ignorant," an extremely rude, judgmental, pushy thing to say, imo.
So those who want to keep the term "woke," not drop it and disavow it universally as I do, have a chore: recapture it.
To do that, the elected spokesperson for the people who want to consider themselves woke (whoever that is) needs to define what woke is. I say, "elected spokesperson," because self-elected spokespeople run the gamut from highly intelligent to idiotic. More importantly, being self-elected, they are illegitimate. Democracy can help decide whose voice deserves to be listened to and whose voice deserves to be set aside in favor of the will of the people involved.
The spokesperson will need to explain what "woke" really means, and publish that in an official way so that, for example, news organizations can rely on the accepted definition. The "woke," then, will have succeeded in defining their brand name.
In practice, that's impossible. So, the brand will be defined by its enemies for the most part, as a way to weaken the good folks of liberal persuasion. Therefore, the term should simply be jettisoned. Occam's Razor.

(6,208 posts)The difference between Democrats and Republicans is clear:
Democratic voters are awake, Republican voters are asleep.
Democratic voters are engaged with the world around them.
Republican voters are pretty much brain-dead zombies, who allow their leaders to tell them what to think, what to say, and what to do.
No wonder Republican leaders don't like woke people.

And another time someone said an Asian woman was being woke because she kept referring to people that were slaves in the US as enslaved persons instead of just "slaves" .

(100,103 posts)It's scary how many people I know that watch literally all think exactly alike. Whereas people I know who don't watch that shit actually have opinions on the issues. It's because Rupert Murdoch doesn't want a well educated populace capable of critical thinking. He wants people stupid, ill-informed, and ignorant on the issues.

We can all thank Floridas governor for redefining the word. He hates all people that dont conform to his standards and wants to punish them for their existence. He doesnt sound like the orange guy, sure as hell, he wants to be a dictator too.

(4,010 posts)...to his lordship. Odd too as he's already alienated a lot of R's by going after Disney for being woke. R's with LGBTQ kids or grandkids are also turned off. Folks who read books are equally ashamed of his book-burning ways. Teachers are aghast at laws that could actually jail them and librarians merely for having discussions on race, slavery and the white man's efforts to hurt minority groups. He's a one-man wrecking crew against his opponents, the number of which is growing.
