House Concurrent Resolution 9, which denounces socialism in all its forms and opposes the implementation of socialist policies in the United States, was introduced by Rep. María Elvira Salazar (R-Florida) I think its the best resolution that has ever been presented before the United States Congress, Salazar told Insider at the U.S. Capitol before the vote. Our youth are being penetrated by this ideology through media and academia.
Can someone who is smarter than me please explain why so many Democrats voted yes on this?
One hundred and nine Democrats many of them members of the corporate-friendly New Democrat Coalition joined with every Republican lawmaker in voting to approve the resolution. Prominent Democrats who voted yes include: House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (New York), former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (California), and House Assistant Democratic Leader Jim Clyburn (South Carolina)
The resolution can be read here: https://www.congress.gov/bill/118th-congress/house-concurrent-resolution/9/text
While part of it is worded to to condemn communists regimes, other parts seem to be included to protect billionaires.
I'm not bashing. I would just like to know the reason why?

(37,160 posts)Even if Bernie and The Squad had full reign to set the agenda -- which they don't -- their proposals aren't socialism. I'll argue they are mistaken when they identify their beliefs as democratic socialism. Like it or not, Americans don't do "subtle" about that word.
The entire point of the resolution was to get Democrats on record as being "socialist", in equating Democrats with Stalinists and Maoists. That's why it's worded to claim that the sort of policies and reforms conservatives like to call "socialist" put countries on the path to being mass-murdering police states, even though the examples they used did not become so through gradual, intermediate steps. They were all revolutionary extreme ideologues from the get-go.
And that equating is just garbage. Conservatives consider the New Deal to be "socialism", and by that logic we won WW2 and the Cold War as a "socialist" nation.

(37,160 posts)Having a mixed economy is not the same as socialism.
It's not "scared of the word" to recognize that large swaths of the country associate it with Cold War totalitarian adversaries (y'know, like the ones that put "Socialist" in their name), and that we're more interested in getting things done than what it's called. Especially when calling it one way adds a huge hurdle to getting those things done.

(32,083 posts)The resolution is obviously bullshit, and an attempt to tar the Democrats as "evil Socialists." Why play into it? The best answer to this shit is a non-answer.
"...best resolution that has ever been presented before the United States Congress..." Give. Me. A. Fucking. Break. Holy shit, the GOP are such dolts.

(44,124 posts)Also because Republicans are assholes who want to brand Democrats as socialists in lying attack ads.
As you know. 99.9999999% Democrats are not pure socialists. And to me the few who claim they are socialists arent either, they want social programs, safety nets, economic equality etc. as do all Democrats.

(19,981 posts)and eventually they may be able to privatize them, maximize profits, and make the big bucks trading them!!!
Note their current proposals to chip away at Social Security, Medicare, public schools, and other public services.
What they are actually condemning is totalitarianism (though for some reason there is nothing in their 'Resolution' about Hitler or his 'National Socialists') :

As opposed to socialism:
Social ownership can be public, community, collective, cooperative,[9][10][11] or employee.[6][12] While no single definition encapsulates the many types of socialism,[13] social ownership is the one common element,[5][14] and is considered left-wing.

The demonization has been going on for more than a century; I believe since the Bolshevik Revolution that saw the commies take control of private property. The capitalists got scared and started their campaign to fight all forms of common ownership--which continues now a century later.
