The FBI should give Supreme Court members lie detector tests, along with one of their wives that likes to act like she and her husband are both Justices,

(4,554 posts)don't work. Which is why lie detector evidence is not admissible in court (including the Supreme Court).

(4,554 posts)whether or not guilt is felt i.e. they don't "work" in the sense that the results are unreliable and based on pseudoscience. That's why they are not admissible court evidence.
They are however utilized by law enforcement and do have some utility in that most perps think they do work and are therefore more prone to confessing in hopes of getting a better deal (downside is though this can also result in coercing a confession from an innocent suspect).
I recall a story in that regard, supposedly true, where the cops improvised a lie detector machine with a metal colander and a photo copier. They placed the colander on a suspects head, ran a wire from it to the copier and programmed the copier to print a sheet with large letters saying either "truth" or "lie". They would ask a question, start the copier with the desired reply and show the results to the suspect. Apparently it worked (in getting a confession that is).
