A view from a red state.

I live in Indiana, and while I'm not really thrilled with my fellow Hoosiers this election, I'm not incredibly disappointed either. We didn't go for Obama this time, but it turned out that he didn't need our 11 electoral votes. Our Democratic candidate for governor was defeated, but it was kinda close which was more than I expected. Here's where the good part comes in. We tossed that knuckle-dragging tea party candidate for Senate, Richard Mourdock, out on his ass. You might remember him. He was the guy who made headlines when he said that a rape resulting in a pregnancy was God's will. So Indiana is sending a Democratic Senator to Washington. All hope is not lost here. There are enough level headed people here who won't let us get too extreme with our representatives.

Overall, I am very pleased with this election on a national level. We picked up a little help in the Senate and maintained control there. Last I heard we might have picked up a few seats in the House, but I'm not so sure of that. I haven't heard the latest there. I know we didn't do nearly good enough there to gain control, and I wish that was different, but having the presidency and the Senate might be enough to get some stuff done this go round. And, of course, we may be appointing a couple of Supreme Court justices and that is huge.

Looking out across the country, I think America is gradually becoming more liberal in it's views collectively. We've elected the first black President to his second term. There is a greater female presence in Congress than ever before. Minorities and young people came up big in this election and made their voices heard like never before. Two states legalized gay marriage and one refused to ban it when they had the opportunity to do so. Two states legalized marijuana which I think reflects growing sanity on the issue.

Yes, I am pleased.

I think you are quite right about being pleased.

The country is really finally heading in the right...er, correct direction.
