DeSantis's plans to make the New College Of Florida a MAGA institution.

How do we thwart it or do we go gently into the night? There are only six hundred twenty five students. Could scholarship funds be set up for them so they can transfer? Could some private institutions offer scholarships? I went to Daytona Beach Community College for my A.A., the University Of Central Florida for my B.S. and M.A., and then to Florida State University to work towards a Ph.D. Damn if I would go to a MAGA institution. I had Republican professors and that was fine but they would have been appalled by Trump.

It was supposed to thwart segregation. Now DeSantis explicitly wants to end the policies supporting diversity and inclusion. This is so evil it makes me sick.

I surely would be glad of any ideas of how to fight this.

It's sickening because students choose it to get a small (l) liberal education and DeSantis is turning it into a MAGA institution which is the antithesis of liberalism. It beggars the question: what is to be done?

Faculty will be fired when the curriculum no longer includes gender studies, for example, students who have invested in liberal education will lose that investment and have to leave, and the LGBTQ community has lost a safe and nurturing academic environment.

He has already taken over the board with wingnuts with zero educational or public service background, people who literally want to dismantle our quite good SUS system here.

Big hassle, however, it would be the demise of the college since we all know MAGA’s aren’t keen on higher education.

As a matter of fact they probably couldn’t get in with their high school stats. They’re not the brightest stars on the planet!

Physics is physics, calculus is calculus, an English class focusing on a jr/sr level Shakespeare class has direct equivalents all over the country, as does a jr/sr level history class called Modern (post WWII) America.

Name the course at X university and it's highly likely that Y university will match up about 95%. Or higher. Even if they're all the way across the country from each other.

And even the 5% or so that don't match up (say CA history classes that aren't offered in MA) will transfer as approved electives within a major.

So no need to demand a refund. It's the rare class that won't transfer, usually something super-highly specialized. Not many of those classes out there.

For how long it takes for enough students to abandon ship or flat out choose to go elsewhere for a real education, that the college will toffer 100% open enrollment to get the nitwits to attend.

The smart kids will take their tuition money elsewhere.

If they can qualify for admission to a real university after receiving a crap education K-12.
