I assume he would resign, right? Which will help us for awhile because the house will become 221-213 until Newsom calls a special election. I mean no way he would want to stay around after getting rejected. Yeah, I know that he stayed in Congress the first time he seeked the role when Ryan got it, but this time is different.

Not sure Stefanik would let him get away with that one after his failure.

(4,167 posts)And not a passing of the torch type one and becoming a wise mentor like Pelosi is taking. Why would he want to stick around as either Majority Leader (second in charge) or even just a regular member of the House when he was supposedly next in line to be Speaker. I just think it would be humiliating to him and he wouldnt want to stick around for that.

(6,545 posts)He has two goals - money and power. He has little else to provide those to him. If he stays with the new GQP agreement that the new Speaker can be tossed on a whim, hell just view it as biding his time.

"McCarthy is done, done, done," he said. "He's not going to be next Speaker. I don't think Kevin McCarthy is in the House of Representatives a year from now. I think he is gone."
