I remember having a conversation with my mom a few days later. And my mom and I are close. We’re not extremely close. And I hadn’t really talked to her about a lot of this throughout this period. Like, she knew I was looking for attorneys, and she asked me, like, “Aren’t you really happy? Like, this is great. I’m so happy that, like, they connected you with someone.”

And I remember saying to her, like, kind of snarly laughing, saying, “No, I’m fucked.” And she was like, “What? What do you mean?” And I was like, “No. I am completely indebted to these people,” and I was like, “And they will ruin my life, Mom, if I do anything that they don’t want me to do.”

I don’t have a relationship with my biological father, but I went to his house one night. I drove up to New Jersey, and I went to his house one night and begged him — it’s probably one thing I regret in all of this, I wish I didn’t stoop to that level, because it was a no — but I begged him to help me. I said I would pay him back, like, “Name your interest rate.” Like, “I just need help.”

And I remember saying to him, “You have no idea what they’re going to do to me.”

Cassidy Hutchinson chose to tell the truth rather than to lie or run away. Doing the right thing will serve her well in the end, and the country owes her and the others who stood with her a debt of gratitude.

9. That Poor Young Woman

Sounds like her family is a real piece of work. Ironically, the lawyer in question was Trump’s top ethics lawyer. He also worked for Newt Gingrich. I have to wonder how far TFG’s people would go to keep people quiet. Cassidy Hutchinson showed remarkable bravery under the circumstances.

11. Well, she's 26 now. When she made the mistake of getting involved

with tRump's RW populist movement she was much younger than, for just one example whose name everyone recognizes, Ocasio-Cortez was in 2015-2016 when so much went so shamefully and disastrously wrong. In 2016 Hutchinson was still in college and had her first internship, in Ted Cruz's office.

What's so striking about Hutchinson to me is that, in spite of being one of "those awful people" and surrounded by them in tRump's inner circles, she ultimately was able to straighten her own thinking out. Most in the clutches of political radicalism don't seem able to, and many of those simply couldn't, not in them. Hope Hicks certainly hasn't. Hearing about Hutchinson's family, it seems even more impressive. Some good genetic personality and intellectual wiring overcoming environment.

Nothing new about that! Over half the nation, including into the left, will reliably choose pleasing lies over light. Not her any more. Heroically demonstrated. And she's only 26, barely out of adolescence.
