Wonder if anybody planted any listening device or other bug. Wouldnt be surprised.
Fraternizing with the ENEMY in the Oval Office. By his invitation - TO that same enemy!!! Thats sacrilege!
Damn you, donald. You sold us out. And if you werent quite able to finish the job, its galling as hell how close you got.

(2,772 posts)The worriers are precisely the people who criticized Obamas tan suit. Theyre petty people who are so frightened by and jealous of people of substance who are secure in their own skin that these ciphers lash out.

(58,785 posts)His wartime presidential "uniform" is a lot more than just symbolic. It's what he wears. This is one of those litmus nonissues that reveals far more than the nothing it is.
I read that this is Zelensky's first trip out of Ukraine since the war began. Since the skies of Ukraine are far too dangerous, he took a night train across the Polish border and then probably a USAF jet accompanied by US fighter and NATO jets. Arrived @ 10 hours later in DC. around noon, met with our president, addressedcongress, then...stealth return to Ukraine via Poland. Zip-zip.

(28,824 posts)what i did not know that there was a historical precedent. It does seem fitting that in a time of war, dressing up is totally optional. So much more important stuff to talk about!
I felt that was his message to me. either that or he's just left all that shit at home for the moment.
first of all, imagine if he did dress up and wore a suit. His country is literally war-torn people are freezing and starving. If he dressed up, he'd be hit with the "let them eat cake" criticism. Totally appropriate for him to be dressed down. Any criticism is cynical and fake.

(17,191 posts)Apparently Roosevelt was trying to come up with a name for the League of Nations-type organization he wanted to promote after the war. When he came up with "United Nations," he wheeled into Churchill's bathroom where he'd just emerged from the tub, to tell him about it.. Here are a couple of historical accounts: https://richardlangworth.com/churchills-naked-encounter

(12,515 posts)The Germans deployed V2 rockets vs England all the way thru 3/27/1945 and the Germans held some launch area until the wars end, targeting European targets like Antwerp.
In fact... the last few months of the war saw the MOST V2 launches.

(7,857 posts)that we finally have proof that Zelenskyy can smile. We have not seen many from his zoom station in Ukraine. Also, I thought he was wearing his neatest set of fatigues and a very clean pair of boots as he got off the plane. Thus attired, he brought the house down in the Joint Session.

(16,661 posts)Haters will always look for something to criticize and clutch their pearls about. They will hunt high and low to find something, and when they can't find anything real, they'll take the pettiest thing imaginable and spin and twist until they blow it up into the Hugest Fucking Deal Ever. Just like they did when Obama were that tan suit. Exactly like that.
When I watched Zelensky's speech, what he was wearing literally did not even register with me at the time. I was too riveted by his words and his heroism to notice. When I heard about the criticism of his attire, I was like, "Wait, what?" Looked at a pic and was like, "Oh, for Pete's sake."
The people claiming to be upset about his clothes are all Putin boosters who don't want to give money to Ukraine and hate Zelensky on principle. It's not about about the sweatshirt. It never was about the sweatshirt. Fuck them and the clothes horse they rode in on.

(32,917 posts)The a-holes are always going to throw grenades, however they can.
Case in point - President Zelenskyy came to our Congress and gave his speech in English - which is a foreign language for him. I'm sure he was nervous speaking in English but he did it anyway. And he nailed it!
Has Chump ever done that? Of course not. Has any President ever given a speech in a foreign language? None that I know of, but Jimmy Carter is fluent in Spanish, so he might have.
I have so much respect for President Zelenskyy and I'm embarrassed about all the cheap-shot criticisms these MAGAts are throwing. What bullshit! What difference did it make, what he wore?
WarGamer
(12,515 posts)But this is ridiculously misleading.
Winston Churchill spent 110+ days at the White House in WW2.
The tweeter did a vast image search to find some where he's NOT wearing a coat.
It's perfectly OK for Z to appear in his "commander garb" but I really hate when people online seed misinformation.
BTW, do a search for Churchill INSIDE the White House and look at what he's wearing.
