A high profile hacker and software engineer hired by Elon Musk to help fix Twitter has quit after just five weeks.

George Hotz, known by his coding alias Geohot, announced he was stepping down from the company, saying he “didn’t think there was any real impact I could make there.”

Mr Hotz was originally hired for a 12 week “internship” but cut his time short after working for less than half the time originally agreed.

The engineer said he had offered to restructure the company’s core code, but “was turned down”. He added he was “still rooting for the success of Twitter 2.0”.
