Financial and political incentives for imprisonment.

I just saw this on social media / TikTok the author was atlantalawyer.

Basically she said the census counts prisoners as part of the population of the county where they are located. Federal resource$ and political representation depend on how that population is counted. So a prison can grow a population -- built in a low population area it can even qualify the area as a Congressional district when before they wouldn't qualify as one. These areas also become eligible for federal money.

No wonder we have more imprisoned people than any other nation worldwide and people like MTG.

Of course colleges should do the same then and not sure they do. That may equalize the numbers for cities and other areas.

Separate classifications for institutional housing in the census tabulating process. I was a a crew leader in 2010 and my enumerators were to count private housing populations, they did not go to hospitals, dorms or prisons, etc.. There are separate enumeration teams who acquire that data, we never saw it, I am not aware of how the counts were conducted. I had enough on my plate as an adult babysitter/pencil pusher working within the parameters of my assignment.

To realize how many politicians are so bent on finding ways to circumvent laws for personal gain rather than actually serving the public they swore to serve.
