Here's an epic FAFO anti vaxxer story.

Husband (late 50's) and wife (early 60's) both very anti Biden, mandates and Covid vaccine. Very.

August 3, 2021 the husband and his brother got into a motor cycle accident - the brother crashed into the back of an 18 wheeler. The brother died. The husband survived.

On August 14 she posted an alert to anyone who went to the brother's funeral that several people, including her and her husband, tested positive for Covid. She also posted it was like having a 'bad flu'.

August 22 he's hospitalized. August 23 SHE'S hospitalized. It's their wedding anniversary. She's sad but also sure the next one will be better.

September 14, she dies. September 24, he dies. Of Covid.

The End.

12. I've got a few of these stories myself
Tue Nov 22, 2022, 11:30 AM
Nov 2022

My wife's aunt. Thanksgiving 2020. Her daughter and son in law both have Covid, but say to her, "since we don't have fevers, we aren't contagious, so come over for Thanksgiving dinner." First she says, no, but they keep pressuring her until Thanksgiving morning, when she finally relents. A week later the daughter and her husband are leaving for Mexico, on vacation, but their mother has come down with something and can't watch their kids for them. They are furious with her, berate her, find someone else to do it, and leave for Mexico. Her condition worsens, she's hospitalized. And before her daughter returns from Mexico, she's put on a vent. Dies a week before Christmas. So they never got to talk to her again. Right wingers, who still probably deny that they killed their mother.

A couple my niece and her daughter were sharing a house with. Husband was an antivaxxer, refused to let his wife or their disabled daughter get vaccinated. Late Spring of 2021, he gets Covid, gets very sick, drives himself to the hospital, never leaves. His last posts on Facebook are heartbreaking as he realized he made huge mistakes and listened to the wrong sources. Dies in a hospital bed all alone. His Downs Syndrome daughter still doesn't understand why daddy isn't around. Sad.

A couple who are our best friends. The girl's parents are raging Republicans. Summer of 2021, her mom said, "well, we've been under the weather, we've got that bug that's been going around." (You mean Covid? Duh!) The mother gets over it, but the dad has been in and out of the hospital ever since. Was healthy and running a business, now he's had a stroke, and a heart attack. His immune system is basically nothing, quality of life is awful. Been 16 months and he's basically looking like he won't see 2023 now. Family is visiting to say goodbye. Still in denial that it was Covid that did this to him, and when he does die, I'm sure Covid won't be listed as the cause. FAFO.

None of it had to happen. All of these people listened to Trump and now lost loved ones, or will soon lose loved ones.

And then there is poor Mark. Did everything right. Got vaccinated, wore masks. Was helping his son paint the walls in a staircase and fell off a ladder breaking his neck. Was going to be a paralyzed the rest of his life. But instead, caught Covid in the hospital and died. Mark was so full of life, a full blooded Navajo, he was just an amazing person. Literally spent his entire time in life helping others. Mark was in construction and would do any project for anyone for free. He was most proud of his boys, all 3 college graduates from the University of Michigan. Life cut short because we never got Covid under control like we should have because Trump and the Right wingers fought the medical community every step of the way.

Also, 2 other stories of good friends. One Dan, bigger guy, had Covid in late 2021, had a really tough time with it. Dan had the biggest heart, he was an IT guy and loved helping people. Died in his sleep at the age of 35 several months after Covid. And Mike, really into physical fitness, was a former Army drill instructor. Had Covid in 2020, spent a little time in the hospital from it, and struggled with his health ever since. Spring of 2021, got home from work, sat on the couch, turned the TV on, and fell asleep and died at the age of 51. Great guy, just an amazing person. Dead for no good reason.

She took all of the precautions but slipped up somewhere.

Her husband is a physician. His education and experience were of little use. All he could do was watch as her body shut down. I saw her lung x-rays. It looked like her lungs were filled with cotton balls.

Another former co-worker died of Covid VERY early in the pandemic.

My brother had a hard case of Covid in late February, 2020. I was terrified but, again, there was nothing I could do for him but hope. So far he seems to have escaped any significant long haul problems, although he still has a little fatigue and brain fog. He now worries about problems that might develop in the future.

I still don't know how I didn't get infected, since he was at my house TWICE when he was probably in the early contagious stage. To this day I can remember the total relief I felt when I received that first vaccination. And again with the 2nd.

Laz got Long COVID, brain fog began approximately three weeks after he recovered - and a month later, blood clots and seizures. Lost his license to drive in Oct, 2020.
He started getting "better" in late 2021 after being vaxxed and boosted, went 6 months without brain fog and seizures and just as his doctor submitted the paperwork so he could start driving again, we got COVID from a grandkid's "play date" the anti-vaxxer other grandparents made for them.

Three weeks later, Laz had his first COVID brain fog in 8 months. And the seizures are worse.

COVID sucks. Anti-vaxxers/anti-maskers do also.

21. "slipped up"
Tue Nov 22, 2022, 12:36 PM
Nov 2022

Slipped up isn't always accurate, with Covid, you could do everything 100% right and still get Covid. There was no 100% avoiding it, no matter how careful you were. A lot of people go Covid through zero fault of their own. You didn't have to "slip up" to get it. It is so contagious, that anything outside of moving to a desert island the last 3 years made your risk of getting it great than zero.

People who took reasonable precautions and still got it, should not blame themselves.

But that's just the difference between the sides. Libs will take responsibility for themselves while RWers will only blame others or deny they could have done anything to stop it.

The denial is just on another level. These cult members won't even snap out of it when they're literally staring their own death in the face.

It just takes a micro second. I don't even remove my mask until I've used a hand sanitizer. I started doing that after I caught myself scratching my nose or rubbing my eye on the drive home from the store.

I'm fully vaxxed but so was my friend who visited me and tested positive on her 2nd day here. She was masked for her whole journey and from the timing was likely infected before she even boarded the plane. She said she was racking her brain to think of how she got infected.

Fortunately, Paxlovid pretty much mitigated her symptoms and despite us having been in close proximity before she realized she was infected, I continued to test negative. And we still had a great visit as we spent quarantine time together.

Also everyone MAGAt in Congress (including all the aides and assistants) have been vaccinated. As far as I know, none of them have died of Covid since the vaccines became available. And yet these anti-vaxx idiots around the country are still spouting their bullshit to this day.

The fact that a dangerous virus has been politicized seems like a Marvel Comics plot, complete with arch-villains.
Unfortunately, it is no fantasy comic book and so many people have suffered and died and so many others have been left struggling with loss of loved ones, or the long effects of the virus.
Meanwhile, the struggle continues with no end in sight.

of my father's 8 siblings still alive in 2021. Was also my godfather. He was a staunch Democrat and loathed Republicans, especially Trumpists. A union man who worked as a newspaper typesetter before retirement.

He was a skilled craftsman, too. Designed and built his own home in PA. Later moved to Arizona with his second wife and built another home, even more beautiful than the first one. Very active in looking after his blended family and beloved by his stepchildren as well as his own. Always ready, into his 80s, to help on any project.

His wife died in 2018 and he was devastated, but continued helping his grandchildren and step-grandchildren. In 2019, when his son (also in AZ) began building a new house, the son's wife moved in with my uncle to do shopping so he would not have to go out during covid. Uncle, son, and DIL were all vaccinated. They all wore masks and practiced social distancing.

Spring of 2021, my uncle was diagnosed with cancer and started chemo. Early autumn, he fell at home and broke a hip. Covid in AZ was rampant then. While he was recovering in a nursing home, he caught covid. Died at Thanksgiving.

My brother was a career Navy man who retired to the Tampa Bay area. He had COPD from years of exposure to asbestos on ships. In July, 2020, when covid was raging throughout Florida, my brother caught it and died within a few days. I am now the last of my siblings.

be perpetual light.

That said, if we act as fools (the FA part of FAFO) then, according to the irreversible law of Cause and Effect (Karma), we will end up bearing the full weight of the consequences to our actions (the FO part of FAFO).

But we must all remember the two were propagandized by the insidious (and very well-funded, corporate funded) media. Government is bad. We cannot trust government. Government is the problem not the solution. Government is the bad guy. Government can never do anything efficiently or well. We all remember the birth of QAnon during the cancerous reign of Trump. We all remember the outrage we felt at the perfidy of KellyAnn Conway smiling into the camera and talking about 'alternative facts.' What? Alternative facts?

Sure. And millions of Americans, many of whom started out as decent people, have been puppetized and weaponized by the capitalist propaganda made possible through Lewis Powell's 1971 'Manifesto' to the US Chamber of Commerce that lays out the whole plan for corporate takeover of democracy, and Reagan's fateful killing of the Fairness Doctrine. The rise of Rush, and the rest of the hate-talk jocks, who are indirectly enabled by college sports teams who are 'carried' on the same radio stations.

Why do you think the NRA and the rest of the gun rights organizations talk of Democrats as being 'gun grabbers?'

And why do you think the core messaging around 'Second Amendment Rights' is that we need guns to defend ourselves against the US Government?

So, let us all have compassion on these two who paid the ultimate price for believing this capitalist propaganda, but let us also recognize that the root cause of Q is the attempt of oligarchs to end the republic and impose a fascist government with the people ruled in fear by Christian Dominionists while at the same time tax policies systematically funnel wealth into the pockets of billionaire parasites in the name of 'free market' and 'shareholder primacy.'

Bottom line, they are not to blame for their hatred, ignorance and stupid actions. InfoWars, Fox 'news' and hate-talk radio aren't even to blame. Right wing-nuts in Congress are not ultimately to blame.

The Mercers, the Waltons, the Koch brothers and other oligarchs are who we must ultimately blame for this perversion, this cancer on our republic. They are the real enemy of the proverbial 'truth, justice and the American way.' And they do not ever want us to know the real truth.

Eventually that may dilute their numbers. I am still furious how aghast that they would have to accept any limits to help others. I some how don't know many victims, even though I live in the first neighborhood in NYC that had COVID, and my Mom lives in NJ. Those were two of the biggest hot spots the first waves of this mess. I'm still flabbergasted that the former guy didn't just push for the lockdown and really try and get it under control. He could've played the hero. Instead he talked out of both sides of his mouth. His followers both want to take credit for operation warp speed and refuse the vaxx itself. I've never like conservatives but was somehow understanding of their being selfish. The way they've gone lately is just insane, nothing conservative about denying science.

I think the definition of Hardcore R is to be rock solid, double-down squared, to the bitter, and a much quicker, avoidable end. They are unchanging and not learning from experience how the world could work fairly for all. I think you could write a thesis on how, chick-or-the-egg, which came first Republicanism or the end (which they will gladly drag you along into with them be it Covid-19 or the end of U.S. Democracy).

She has a PhD in environmental science. VERY intelligent woman with a blind spot when it comes to vaccinations.

I'm much closer to her brother and he has vented his frustration with his sister. Her HUSBAND, who is vaccinated has vented his frustration and it's caused issues with their marriage. Her daughter has had to drop out of her dance club that she LOVED. Her brother has stopped sharing the holidays with them.

Her family did finally come down with Covid - thankfully not severe cases. She's still resisting vaccinations. Her big fear has to do with fertility.

Also have a nephew who is a BIG time antivaxxer, anti masker and conspiracy theory enthusiast. I haven't seen him or his daughter in 4 years. She's going to be 7 on January 1 and I miss her and her parents like crazy.

It is beyond frustrating but I have to put myself first in this situation.
