No word yet as to who the perp is in this despicable act of mass murder, but I'd bet my life savings, house, car, and all worldly belongings that this dirtball is an extreme right-wing hate-filled MAGAT.
The amount of blood on these peoples' hands (the NRA, Fox News, GOP, Trump, DeSantis, Talk Radio, Washington Examiner, et al) is mind-numbing.
My heart breaks for the victims and their families.
Just freaking EVIL!

Those arguing didn't actually even get wounded. All the bullets hit bystanders or inanimate objects (not that the shooters distinguished between the two).
3 dead, around 10 wounded didn't even make state news.

Absolutely the worst part of working for a daily paper in a small city. Ive been retired a few years now and it seems like these mass shootings are happening more and more. Not that there is any such thing as sensible killings but geez. Really sorry about your cousin

(100,362 posts)We'll go through the same damn arguments we go through every time there's a mass shooting, and Congress will eventually cave to the 2A absolutionists and conspiracy theorists. Because the right wing propaganda controls the narrative on guns.

(61,998 posts)Not all the people who hate and attack gay people are secretly gay themselves.
I don't know why it is that attacks on gay people are assumed to be perpetrated by gay people. When a right-wing terrorist attacks a mosque or synagogue, does anybody ever suggest that they might be secretly Muslim or Jewish? No, they do not. Nor is it speculated that white people who attack Black people are secretly Black. Men who beat their wives aren't secretly female.
Just stop.

The GOP has worked hard to stir up hysteria about drag queens. Maybe you aren't aware of that. Some people are just mean and hateful. Lauren Boebert says horrible things about gay people. Do you really think she's gay?

There is not one case that I know of where the murderer of Gay or Trans people was Gay or Trans himself/herself. Seriously, I do not expect to see this level of what I consider Gay bashing on DU.

When I was living in San Antonio, some nut attacked San Fernando Cathedral, smashed statues, that sort of thing. My evil religious co-workers INSTANTLY said it had to be somebody godless who did it.
I told them it would be a religious loon, because the godless don't give enough of a F about those stupid buildings to do anything to them.
And I turned out to be right. As usual.

Air Force 2, Colorado State 1
they all excuse the bigotry and call criticism of it wokeness. they all work for the NRA and scream if theres any attempt to regulate the assault weapons that make this shit possible. the university of syracuse, 150 miles from the buffalo mass shooting supports 9 RW stations, 6 ex limbaugh. the district there was narrowly won by a republican and dems have no excuse not to start complaining to those universities and pro teams.

I just feel sick waking up to this story. This is the result of all the bullshit groomer/pedophile crap the fucking right wingers keep spewing.
From the time I came out in the 80's, the gay bars and nightclubs were a refuge, a safe place. You could let your guard down and be your true self without fear because you were with others who were like you. The Pulse nightclub shooting was bad enough, and a rude awakening. This is horrifying and I think it's going to get worse the next 2 years.

(16,234 posts)This is the dynamic as it plays out, said Brian Hughes, a professor at American University who studies radicalism and extremism. The conspiracy theory prompts an act of violence; that act of violence needs to be disavowed, and it can only be disavowed by more conspiracy theories, which prompts more violence.

(28,865 posts)OMG, they just released the Suspects name and age. Anderson Lee Aldrich, 22 year old Male. Well, name and age matches another ATTACK by the same name and age matches last year. If this is the same person WHY was he not in Jail? I havent had time to check the Case from the attached attack last year. Please check in and support Family!!!!!!
possibly not his first rodeo? i'm sure this will all come out in the days to come, whether that's true. seems very credible given the name and location:

(270,541 posts)Friday afternoon around 2:00 p.m., deputies with the El Paso County Sheriff's Offices responded to reports of a bomb threat on Rubicon Drive in the Lorson Ranch neighborhood, just south of the Colorado Springs Airport.
The suspect, 21-year old Anderson Lee Aldrich, refused to comply with deputies' orders to surrender. It was reported to the Sherrif's Office that he had a homemade bomb, multiple weapons, and ammunition.
A Tactical Support Unit, which includes the Regional Explosives Unit was called in. Around 10 homes were evacuated in the surrounding area, while an emergency text notification was sent out to homes within a 1/4-mile radius of the address.

(54,185 posts)However, this one is not helpful. Given you are one of the few posters who is active in defending against anti-Semitism and speaks out forcefully and factually, I figured I would illustrate how this trope is viewed among many in the community, especially gay men. When an event like this happens, it is almost automatically assumed the perpetrator is a "self-loathing homo". This has been applied to just about every homophobe, who is male, usually women aren't accused of being "secret lezbos", that they are struggling with their sexuality. It simply isn't true and it is based on two studies, both pathetically small, yet, it has become a popular trope.
So, given I am also a Jew, I am going to reach into that identity to demonstrate how I see this trope as a gay man through my Jewish eyes...
Do you understand now? Basically, we, gay men, are blamed for crimes and hate against us.

(54,185 posts)I know in your response to Iris, you said you didn't need thanks, but you do. Our community is often, IMO, not listened too. So, when someone takes the time to listen to us and change their behavior/mind/opinion, it shows an open-mindedness that many claim to have, but don't sometimes extend to us and our concerns.

For fucks sake my NC district gave the country Meadows followed up with Cawthorn. And those type stoke the worst from the sickest. This will never end with total freedom of speech platforms that encourage, and demand their troops go out and kill. Just like the Cleric leaders of Muslim terrorist, sending brain dead followers to go blow themselves up for Gawd. And they line up to Go kill others and themselves for Gawd. Our Christian Clerics have unlimited ways to recruit and send their Gawd soldiers to go do his will. With unprecedented easy access to weapons to carry it out. And in their eyes and hearts, The best is yet to come. Just wait until GQP, Bannon and Q start telling MAGAs and incels, 72 Virgins await them after carrying out Gawds will.
With Congress, Senators, Governors and even President's, be it candidates or in the White House, pushing war and death on 2/3 of the country, backed by the most powerful media ever assembled and unlimited cash, we are not facing much of a future. There is no sugar coating what we are in for.

(69,091 posts)Yeah, what were mostly seeing is that were a blue state. Were certainly more liberal in terms of social and cultural policies even fiscally. This particular election suggested that were not too far from the norm in that we dont really like taxes. We reduced our overall tax rate, but at the same time, we were open to spending more money on specific programs such as affordable housing and school lunches.
On top of that, we gave Democrats what we call the trifecta control of the governors office, the state House and the state Senate. You have to go back to the 1930s to have a majority in the state House of Representatives thats as large as it is right now for the Democrats. There may be some ebbs and flows, but for the most part Colorado is now a blue state and will probably stay that way for the next 5 to 10 years. Well see what happens. It will mostly depend on whether Republicans end up repositioning themselves.
