The Dems have to start taking back state legislatures. Biden has to fill every vacant judgeship in the country. We need to copy what the rethuglicans have been doing at the local level.
and i added as what my late mom said . we need to take the local dog catcher ( animal control) school boards , library boards and state houses .
i may have mirrored my friend but thats ok. du have a great day

(2,171 posts)I just moved to Elgin (a small town outside of Austin, TX). I was so annoyed to find out that there was no Democrat running for my state legislature seat, just a Republican and a Republican that smokes weed*
Im going to have to start going to the local Democratic Party meetings and find out whats what. Maybe I would nt be able to make a difference, but I can try.

(2,171 posts)My problem is that Texas has a part time legislature that doesnt get paid* a whole lot. I cant afford (or might not be allowed to) take a couple of weeks off of work, and several other random days
But Ill see whats what
🧐
*According to Wikipedia,State legislators in Texas make $600 per month, or $7,200 per year, plus a per diem of $221 for every day the Legislature is in session (also including any special sessions). That adds up to $38,140 a year for a regular session (140 days), with the total pay for a two-year term being $45,340.

(2,171 posts)Its not your full time job; you have some other source of income, with helping your constituents taking up a couple of days a week, plus a couple of weeks full time when the legislature is in session every two years
As someone else in the thread said, its designed to keep the non-wealthy out..,

(7,263 posts)Since launching in January 2017, Run for Something has recruited nearly 100,000 people across all 50 states to run for state or local office.
We provide a safety net for new and exciting progressive leaders at all stages of their journey helping them run efficient, strategic, grassroots, driven campaigns while feeling supported throughout the process.
If you dont take our word for it, hear how we help from Run for Something candidates, partners, mentors, volunteers, and alumni.
By Amanda Litman
On January 20, 2017, Inauguration Day, we launched Run for Something, a political action committee dedicated to helping young people run for office by lowering the barriers to entry. We launched a website, opened up a bank account, filled out the paperwork, and sent a press release to a list we acquired from some friends in PR. Then we emailed our friends, posted on Facebook, and crossed our fingers.
The immediate reaction was astounding. Thousands and thousands of people signed up to say they want to run for office. Volunteers started dedicating hours of their weeks to talk to people about running. Hundreds of Obama, Clinton, and Bernie Sanders campaign alumni joined folks from across the progressive movement to mentor our candidates for free. Were supporting our candidates with resources and fundingand, already, its making a difference in school board, city council, and state legislative races across the country.
Our goal is to change the landscape of the world by planting a whole lot of seeds in the form of young progressive candidates. I hope this book can help.
