start impeaching Thomas and raise the number of Supreme court justices. We must undo the damage Mitch and Trump did.

(15,610 posts)because of participation of voters whose votes are under threat. To keep moving in the right direction we need to pass voting rights act so we have a chance to hold the Presidency in 2024.
Then SCOTUS.
Then the George Floyd Act.

(3,562 posts)If they finished the Jan 6 Committee investigation and published as much as they could for the historic record. Make reforms such as prohibiting Congress people and their families from trading stock or acting on legislation that would impact their family business (if it's over a certain threshold value or income stream; call it the Manchin rule). Tell Roberts to make reforms to his court or Congress and the President will do it for him. You can't have justices or their spouses engaged in the political activities. Strengthen the Hatch Act or come up with something new to prevent the President from steering Federal funds to his business interests (put some teeth into this).
I'll take this if it's possible but there are SO MANY reforms that are screaming to be enacted.

(5,004 posts)If we get to 51, the pressure will be on them. They're both up for reelection and given the direction Arizona appears to be going, if Sinema doesn't start acting like a Democrat, they'll replace her.

(9,238 posts)Then nothing substantial will happen at all. Just gridlock and hearings and poo flinging... which is most likely what will happen.

(43,820 posts)Assuming we have held the House and the Senate, in each instance its going to be by a very small margin -- maybe only one or two votes. And that will limit the ability to pass much of the legislation (or other actions) suggested in this thread. For example:
Impeach Thomas? Probably wouldn't have the votes in the House to do so, particularly since it would be a wast of time given the impossibility of convicting him in the Senate.
Eliminating filibuster: With at best a one vote majority, it is highly unlikely that the Senate would vote to eliminate the filibuster as a general matter. Would it eliminate it for a particular category of legislation? Maybe for voting rights legislation, but not much else.
Pass legislation allowing "unrestricted" abortion rights. Abortion-related legislation might pass, assuming the votes to overcome a filibuster could be mustered (very iffy). But it won't be for "unrestricted" abortion rights. If, as is probably the best case scenario, we hold the House by a single vote, Cuellar would be able to block such legislation. More limited abortion rights legislation might pass even if opposed by Cuellar if a Republican vote could be found for it.
Add more justices. Again, would require a change to the filibuster and I don't see it happening.
Get rid of Electoral College. Requires a Constitutional amendment which isn't happening either.
People should be prepared for more modest steps. From where I sit, the first thing that should happen is that the Senate should accelerate the pace by which it confirms judges. It also should confirm Gigi Sohn to fill the vacancy on the FCC to give the Democrats a majority there.

(14,343 posts)A two thirds vote is required to oust him. Do you think we can swing enough Republicans to get 66 votes? It would be an exercise in futility.

(44 posts)Fantasy land???
Dems dont have the numbers to pass any of that. Youre going to see more of the same for the next two years.
Also, people DO realize that if we get rid of the filibuster and the dumb American people give Republicans control of the senate back, this gives them the ability to destroy America without Dems being able to do anything about it

More action on climate change.
Probably a deal on Social Security and Medicare they strengthens them.
Some other smaller deals. The big stuff already got done. Then in 2024 Dems will look to expand their leads.
