Personal Veterans Day Humor

Once I was deployed for a year in another country where I had to learn the language as I went. So far, so good. Over my time there I kept hearing this one word from the soldiers from that country. I assumed I knew the meaning by inference.

Months into my deployment I was attending a formal dinners with some of this country's Officers and their wives. During the serving of dinner there was some kind of mix up in the order of service. I observed this minor annoyance and said out loud this "word" I had learned. I figured it meant something like "this is mistake or error."

After I said this word the whole table goes silent. Especially, the wives looking at the table. Things moved on.

Afterwards I asked an attendee from this country what did I really say. Because he wasn't fluent in English, and definitely not in cursing. He said it means, how you say, "what a clusterfuck."

My WWII era Army veteran Dad said That "FTA" supposedly meant "Fun, Travel and Adventure". I discovered later that there was an alternate meaning.
