The Phantom was an excellent air to air fighter and ground attack aircraft, just an all around capable airframe.

Those of us in the Army said USMC means Uncle Sams Misguided Children.

(20,165 posts)To serve in some Army units I made liberal use of that acronym.
In one unit I checked in the same day as the new CO. He was a full bird who was coming off rwo years duty at Camp Pendleton. He informed me he planned to make up for all the shit he received there. My reply was "Bring it, sir," of course. The officers in the Battalion were aghast at how this officer on track to receive his star and an NCO would throw insults back ansoldiers. I just always ended mine with "cur" (pronounced 'sir')
I was sad I couldn't extend my TDD with that unit. Besides the banter with the Colonel I met many fine soldies.

Army guy gets in my face and says to me, "Air Force Sucks!" My response was "You ain't wrong." Loud laughter ensued and I got no more guff from the Army guys the rest of the evening.
